The Diary of Anne Frank Is 'A Monument to The Human Spirit'

One of the most famous accounts of living under the Nazi regime comes from the diary of a 13-year-old Jewish girl, Anne Frank. Edited by her father Otto H. Frank and German novelist Mirjam Pressler, this is a true story to be rediscovered by each new generation.

12th July 1944:

'It's difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.'

In the summer of 1942, fleeing the horrors of the Nazi occupation, Anne Frank and her family were forced into hiding in the back of an Amsterdam warehouse.

Aged 13, Anne kept a diary of her time in the secret annexe. She movingly revealed how the eight people living under these extraordinary conditions coped with hunger, the daily threat of discovery and death and isolation from the outside world.

A thought-provoking record of tension and struggle, adolescence and confinement, anger and heartbreak, the diary of Anne Frank is a testament to the atrocities of the past and a promise they will never be forgotten.

Editorial Reviews

In celebration of its 70th Anniversary, this is the complete and unabridged audiobook of Diary of a Young Girl, the memoir written by Anne Frank and narrated beautifully by English actress Helena Bonham Carter. The tragic early teenage years of Anne’s life that she documented in her diary are as powerful now as it was when it was first discovered and published in the years after World War II. Audible listeners will revisit or discover Anne’s intimate account of survival and family. A heartbreaking memoir from one young witness to a senseless and terrible war.

Remind me my own mindset when I was child

By God grace I was lucky enough not to go through such anne and her family and all Jews had to go through.
Inspire of all that I like where anne frequently writes life is good. There is sky, birds animals and nature which are enough to make us happy.
Her remark on People are good touches me.

Let Ann give you an experience of life in tough times from little to great joys and sorrows.

How could she stay so positive amongst all that ?

I can never know how she was so positive amongst all that. I cannot seem to be ever be happy despite all I have. We are all prisoners of our own minds.

Dear Anne

Even before reading your book, I somehow always felt an uncanny connection with you and now I can positively say that my intuition was right. I could resonate with your thoughts like I know you and have ever with any living being. Diary writers would follow what I am trying to express. Love.

The reading was very soothing and I thoroughly enjoyed it, all through out.

Amazing read for all age groups

It's a personal diary, so it is as open and honest as it can get. Amazed by how at such tender age, Anne is so clear about her thoughts and feelings. Makes you appreciate everything you have, specially freedom to live. I highly recommend this book 😊

A Display of Inspiring Resilience Amidst Adversity

This collection of diary entries by Anne Frank showed me how much resilience one can have during the worst of adversities, with hope. The fact that she continues to inspire readers/listeners of all ages and backgrounds, even years after her demise, makes me wonder about the unique impact she would have made in this unfair world that would especially offer solace to those who have lost hope. While listening to the entries - which was beautifully narrated by Helena - there were moments where I was in tears listening to the profound thoughts and thought processes of an adolescent Anne who had to develope immense maturity in a short period of time. But nevertheless, her words can breath into us an air of optimism and inspiration. A bittersweet experience that I would recommend highly to anyone.
