Story
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Story
The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. "Fourth Wing will have your heart pounding from beginning to end ... A fantasy like you've never read before."—Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times bestselling author
Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros.
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.
But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away … because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.
With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.
She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.
Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.
Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

Thrilling, fast paced and very interesting!
It's Violet's first year at the Military school, whose General officer Commanding is her own strict mother. Though she's physically weaker than the other cadets, she makes up for it with her speed and smarts. The cadets must go through a grueling training and even be prepared to defend themselves against other cadets. Because in this world, you graduate only if you bond with a Dragon and there are only so many of those. Once you bond with a Dragon, you also get magical abilities like wielding ice or fire or lightening.
The story is gripping, with never a dull moment. I can totally see it joining the ranks of Harry Potter if the movie / show does justice to the book.
Lastly, 5/5 for the narration by Rebecca Yarros. Her voice modulations to enact a girl, boy or even a dragon is commendable. I also remember really liking the audiobook of Sadie because of her narration.

Exciting young adult adventure, romance and thorou
Enjoyed the world building of dragons and the friendship, romance and the rest
Violet Sorrengail was training to be a scribe when she is thrust into the world of riders and it starts with crossing the parapet and the only two things which can happen after that is that she is live or die.
If she lives, she faces other cadets and riders who would not hesitate to kill her.
Violet's bigger problem is that she is in chronic pain and short and she thinks she is not suitable to be a rider.
The fact that she is General Sorrengail's daughter and the sister of Mira, another brave rider and a slain dragon rider - Brennan, makes things worse for her in the place.
Dain, a second year rider is one help for her inside the place. But is that alone enough?
Violet was surprisingly tough and strong and her mantra of 'I will not die today' is what moves her from one trouble to another.
Xander was a very interesting carved character and even how he ended up as a rider despite being a traitor was a nice read.
The dragons themselves were thoroughly enjoyable and their connection with their riders and how they worked together and let their rider channel their power was brought out very well. Tairn and Violet were lovely together and their banter was beautiful.
General Sorrengail and her relationship with her daughter(s) and the reason the whole thing started was another interesting point in the story.
The short battles and how Violent navigates the world where nothing can be taken as granted and how she has to work with her own limitations was very well brought out.
Then the twists in the tale where there was treachery involved and it is obvious that things are not what they seem in the military system.
The world building, the action, romance and humour was all excellent to read about.
I enjoyed listening to the narration of the audio book too.
Enjoyable story.

Evoke all the emotions that’s there in me
I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I exclaimed.
This book delivers on all fronts.
So refreshing to find a female protagonist who is strong willed and stubborn for moral reasons but without that annoying characteristics of being illogically and unreasonable
