Publisher's Summary

The Four Winds, an instant New York Times bestseller and Richard and Judy Book Club Pick, is a deeply moving story about the strength and resilience of women and the bond between mother and daughter, by the bestselling author of The Nightingale, Kristin Hannah.

She will discover the best of herself in the worst of times . . .

Texas, 1934. Elsa Martinelli had finally found the life she’d yearned for. A family, a home and a livelihood on a farm on the Great Plains. But when drought threatens all she and her community hold dear, Elsa’s world is shattered to the winds.

Fearful of the future, when Elsa wakes to find her husband has fled, she is forced to make the most agonizing decision of her life. Fight for the land she loves or take her beloved children, Loreda and Ant, west to California in search of a better life. Will it be the land of milk and honey? Or will their experience challenge every ounce of strength they possess?

From the overriding love of a mother for her child, the value of female friendship and the ability to love again – against all odds, Elsa’s incredible journey is a story of survival, hope and what we do for the ones we love.

Love, Love, Love

Why we do what we do, there are so many accounts of it, but very few touch your soul. This story, is not just about love, and is only about love. The characters, their vulnerability, their innocence, their pain, their journey of finding their voice, is narrated beautifully. I felt like I was coming to my own. I love many lines, but this one seals the book in a sentence for me - "Only love remains, everything else is just decorations".

A lovely book and a beautiful narration

Another masterpiece from Kristin Hannah. This book is a bittersweet tale of a woman's journey to a place of hope, courage and resilience. The story is heart wrenching but inspires us to stay strong and brave for it's in the worst of our times, we truly find the best of ourselves. Even when everything is lost, "love still remains".
I also loved how the author has beautifully explored relationship between a mother and a daughter, a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law and a rare unseen friendship.
I have only listened to a couple of Kristin Hannah's audiobooks so far but I am already a fan. Looking forward to hearing more.
Finally, a big shout out to the narrator here, for doing a great job and making the listening experience truly amazing. Three cheers!

Both author and narrator did incredible job to bring this book come to life. get some tissue before you listen to this audiobook, you're gonna cry pr atleast gonna feel a lump in your throat. This is the first book i am giving five stars this year and i commend the narrator julia Whelan for doing such a tremendous job. I never loved a protagonist so much, Elsa will stay with me forever.

Gritty!

Listening to the book during the pandemic definitely resonates at a personal level. The shift in the mindset of characters as the story progresses is wonderful. Julia brings alive the book with her narration. This book has been a companion to me during all the chores at home, a story that inspires us to persevere, even at the hardest of times.

A story that will be with you for a long time.

Heart breaking, courageous , beautiful in it's own way. Another heart wrenching tale that is equally hopeful and brave. Be ready with lots of tissues. Kudos to Kristin Hannah. She understands the parent - child relationship like no one else . Narrator is outstanding.
