Daniel Barr is University Professor of Early American History at Robert Morris University in suburban Pittsburgh, where he teaches courses on the American Revolution, Pennsylvania history, and American Indian history. Having been born, raised, and educated in western Pennsylvania, the history of the region, and of Pittsburgh in particular, has shaped his historical interests. His first book, The Boundaries Between Us, grew from his interest in Delaware Indian relations with colonial settlers on the western Pennsylvania frontier, eventually evolving into a wider study of cross cultural relations on the nation's first frontiers. His next book, Unconquered: The Iroquois League at War in Colonial America, evolved in part from those same interests, albeit in a more encompassing format. His most recent book, A Colony Sprung from Hell: Pittsburgh and the Struggle for Authority on the Western Pennsylvania Frontier, returns to the early history of western Pennsylvania and the contentious contest for power that shaped the region during the late eighteenth-century.
