Magnus was born in Iceland. His parents passed at a young age, in a boating accident near Greenland, so Magnus lived alone between the ages of nine and sixteen in a cottage on the edge of a mountain. Beyond tending to the sheep and cultivating juniper, Magnus had little to do, so he consumed literature. He taught himself several languages as he read everything from Tolstoy to Nora Roberts. Now, he primarily writes in English.
