Es sind also selbst ernannte illegale Richter und Polizisten. Wie ihr Leben und Treiben moralisch zu bewerten ist, lässt sich gewiss nicht spontan und generell entscheiden. Wie so oft hängt es von den besonderen Umständen ab. Gerstäckers Roman ist eine abenteuerliche Kriminalgeschichte, ausgeschmückt mit komischen Szenen und einer Liebesgeschichte.
