Nastassja und der Hausknecht überreichen ihm eine Vorladung der Polizei. Nachdem er auf der Wache erfährt, dass es sich lediglich um eine Geldforderung seiner Vermieterin handelt, ist er zunächst beruhigt. Doch überkommt ihn das Gefühl, die Tat gestehen zu müssen. Abschließend unterhält er sich mit dem Polizisten über den mittlerweile bekanntgewordenen Mord und fragt ihn über mögliche Verdächtige aus.
