Am Grab seines Vaters trifft Vijay Kumar auf eine merkwürdige Frau. Sie beauftragt den Privatdetektiv, nach Gaudenz Pfister zu suchen. Vijays Nachforschungen bringen ans Licht, dass Pfister als Obdachloser unter dem Spitznamen Fischli auf der Straße lebt. Dabei hätte der einstige Banker genug Geld für einen Neuanfang haben müssen.

"Du bist zwar auch nicht gerade ein Eingeborener, aber ein Inder ist immer noch besser als ein Deutscher!" Dass sich ein ausländerfeindlicher Klient ausgerechnet an Vijay Kumar wendet, hätte sich der Privatdetektiv nicht träumen lassen. Mit seiner vereinnahmenden indischen Mutter und seit Neuestem auch noch seiner Schwiegermutter in spe, die ihn permanent auf das Thema Hochzeit ansprechen, fühlt sich Vijay nicht gerade als Vorzeigeschweizer.

Vijay Kumar wird zufällig Zeuge, wie die Dokumentarfilmerin Pina Gilardi auf offener Straße niedergestochen wird. Kurz zuvor hat der indischstämmige Privatdetektiv sie noch in Begleitung einer merkwürdig vermummten Person gesehen. Da die im Koma liegende Filmemacherin nichts zum Geschehen aussagen kann, engagiert ihre Lebensgefährtin Vijay, der herausfinden soll, was hinter der Tat steckt. Er erfährt, dass Gilardi erst jüngst aus Indien zurückgekehrt ist, wo sie nach Jahren erneut das Thema aufgegriffen hat, mit dem sie berühmt wurde: die Lebensbedingungen HIV-positiver Menschen.

Vijay Kumar ist irritiert: Der Zürcher Medientycoon Blanchard beauftragt ausgerechnet ihn, seine verschwundene Putzfrau Rosie zu suchen. Und bietet dem indischstämmigen Detektiv dafür ein saftiges Honorar. Was ist so besonders an Rosie? Als der rechte Politiker Graf tot aufgefunden wird, bekommt der Fall eine neue Dimension - denn auch bei Graf hat Rosie geputzt. Der indischstämmige Schweizer Detektiv Vijay Kumar ist einfach wunderbar: Mit leichter Hand erzählt Autor Sunil Mann von dem Leben zwischen verschiedenen Kulturen.

Vijay Kumar ist dreißig Jahre alt, indischer Abstammung, frischgebackener Privatdetektiv - und schon desillusioniert: Seine erste Auftraggeberin ist eine anstrengende Frau, die ihre Katze vermisst. Indischer Whisky und eine gehörige Portion Selbstironie helfen ihm, aufkommende Zweifel an seiner Berufswahl zu verdrängen. Doch auch sein zweiter Auftrag ist weder lukrativ noch Glanz und Ruhm versprechend: Die junge Ness macht sich Sorgen um ihren Freund, den Drogendealer Philipp.

Als Alice Holmes erzählt, dass man in einem Waldstück in Greenwich ein ausgesetztes Baby gefunden hat, und dies schon der zweite Vorfall dieser Art innerhalb weniger Wochen war, beschließen Holmes, Watson und natürlich Alice kurzerhand, der Sache auf den Grund zu gehen. Die Spur führt sie in das nahegelegene Arbeitshaus. Nach ersten Gesprächen mit den Bewohnern ist der Fall für Holmes schnell klar. Und auch Alice weiß, was sie zu tun hat.

Nach dem Selbstmord von Hershel Jackson befinden sich Holmes und Watson recht unfreiwillig an Bord der "Lady Jane" und begeben sich somit auf die Seereise nach Südafrika. Während Holmes die Überfahrt zu gefallen scheint, leidet Holmes an der Seekrankheit und an der damit verbunden Übelkeit. Doch Holmes neue Bekanntschaft Hr. Vogt weiß Abhilfe. Zudem scheint er als Archäologe eine ganz besondere Leidenschaft für die großen Wikinger zu hegen. Indessen trägt sich an Bord der "Lady Jane" ein bestialischer Mord zu, und Holmes und Watson stehen vor neuen Rätseln.

Es war ein Freitagabend im November. Holmes und Watson wurden von Inspektor Wolfford zu einem Tatort gerufen. Doch es war kein gewöhnlicher Raubüberfall, wie Holmes sofort feststellte, denn ein Detail passte nicht ins Bild. Weshalb wurden dem Opfer die Schuhe gestohlen, ihm seine teure Armbanduhr aber gelassen? Als tags darauf ein ungewöhnlicher Banküberfall stattfindet und es eine weitere Leiche mit derselben Tatwaffe gibt, steht für Holmes ein Zusammenhang der beiden Mordfälle, außer Frage.

The Valley of Fear is the fourth and final Sherlock Holmes novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is loosely based on the Molly Maguires and Pinkerton agent James McParland. The story was first published in the Strand Magazine between September 1914 and May 1915. The first book edition was copyrighted in 1914, and it was first published by George H. Doran Company in New York on 27 February 1915, and illustrated by Arthur I. Keller. The novel starts with Sherlock Holmes receiving a cipher message from Fred Porlock, a pseudonymous agent of Professor Moriarty.

Als einige Zeit später Alice jedoch einen der beiden Streithähne am Galgen baumelnd in der Damentoilette entdeckt, liegt der Verdacht auf den Täter nahe.

The Adventure of the Dancing Men, a Sherlock Holmes story written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is one of 13 stories in the cycle published as The Return of Sherlock Holmes in 1905.Doyle ranked The Adventure of the Dancing Men third in his list of his twelve favorite Holmes stories. This is one of only two Sherlock Holmes short stories where Holmes' client dies after seeking his help. The other is "The Five Orange Pips", part of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

The Adventure of the Copper Beeches, one of the 56 short Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is the last of the twelve collected in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in Strand Magazine in June 1892. Violet Hunter visits Holmes, asking whether she should accept a job as governess; a job with very strange conditions. She is enticed by the phenomenal salary which, as originally offered, is £100 a year, later increased to £120 when Miss Hunter baulks at having to cut her long hair short (her previous position paid £48 a year).

"The Adventure of the Reigate Squire", also known as The Adventure of the Reigate Puzzle or "The Adventure of the Reigate Squires", was one of the 56 Sherlock Holmes short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The Adventure of the Reigate Squires was first published in 1893. It is one of 12 stories in the cycle collected as The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Doyle ranked "The Adventure of the Reigate Squire" twelfth in his list of his twelve favorite Holmes stories. The elder Cunningham's confidence is broken after his arrest and he tells all.
