In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

This is the fifth time I went through the novel. First time in audio format. It was a liberating experience given by the fact that I could listen while doing other things.

As for the novel, no words would do justice to the greatness. The characters, the narrative, the visual rendering, everything about this novel is in depth, and at the same time, succinct.

Kafka on the Shore follows the fortunes of two remarkable characters. Kafka Tamura runs away from home at 15, under the shadow of his father's dark prophesy. The aging Nakata, tracker of lost cats, who never recovered from a bizarre childhood affliction, finds his pleasantly simplified life suddenly turned upside down.

Stumbled across this while searching for works by Kafka. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The story has an otherworldly quality to it. The themes are true to their threads. The imagery is wild and surreal for most parts.
