Story
A revolutionary system to get one per cent better every day. People think when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions – doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call. He calls them atomic habits.

Practical take on the habit loop, should be useful as a follow up read to Charles Duhigg’s Power of Habit

If you are looking to understand the habit loop, I would recommend you to start with ‘Power of Habit’ by Charles Duhigg. Atomic Habits provides a more practical take on how to utilise the habit loop to incorporate new habits or improve old ones into your daily routine. My key takeaway from this book has been to focus on habits that are true to my core personality. Also, willpower is not enough and often overrated. It is probably equally (if not more) important to design your environment which makes sticking to desired habits easier and following bad habits difficult. Two things can be improved in this audiobook: 1. The speed of narration could be slower. That would make it more pleasant to listen to. 2. I wish a pdf of all the different links that the author mentioned was provided. It was often difficult to find those specific articles online.

The profoundness of the content is unquestionable. The narrator’s voice is also very soothing. But I wish the book was better organised in order for me to actually translate this into everyday practice. The brief one minute preachings and poor organisation make this book less accessible.

Use this book as it is meant to: a 10 week academic course on improving your willpower. Spend time instrospecting your thoughts/feelings through 'under the microscope' and 'willpower experiments'. Self-awareness is the key to gaining insight into your willpower successes and failures. The narration is beautiful. Apt pace and intonation, clear pronunciation, and relaxing to listen to.
