베르트람과 세 친구, 야크, 카스페르, 그리고 펠릭스는 막 학교를 졸업하고 '호크스'라는 작은 갱단을 결성했다. 핸들러는 고객의 요청으로 그들에게 돈을 주고 불법 침입해 값비싼 명품 가구를 훔쳐 오는 일을 맡긴다. 베르트람은 음식점 웨이트리스로 일하는 엄마와 둘이 산다. 엄마는 베르트람이 신문 배달로 돈을 버는 줄 알고 있다. 베르트람은 아빠에 대한 기억이 별로 없다. 아빠가 살인으로 종신형 선고를 받았을 때 겨우 일곱 살이었다. 어느 날, 엄마가 일하는 음식점에서 비싼 가죽 재킷을 훔친 베르트람은 재킷 안감의 속주머니에 감춰진 뭔가를 발견한다. 이것은 베르트람과 주위 사람에게 재앙 같은 결과를 불러온다.
클리너는 6편으로 이루어진 범죄 소설이다. 잉에르 감멜가르드 마센(1960~)은 덴마크 작가이다. 한때 그래픽 디자이너로 일했다. 2008년 범죄물 '아기 인형'으로 등단했다. 이후 범죄 장르의 소설을 몇 권 썼다. 다른 작품으로 '살인 요청(2009),' '뱀과의 결혼(2014),' '판사와 집행자(2015),' '피의 비(2016)' 등이 있다.
