 冬の寒い日、町内の火の用心に、夜まわりすることになった。｢火の用心｣の掛け声が謡曲調になったり、吉原の夜まわりの調子になったりしながら番小屋へ戻る。めいめいが酒や猪の肉、ねぎや鍋まで持ち込んで、楽しく飲んだり食べたりして都々逸までまわしだす始末。すると、見まわりの役人がやってきた。風邪気味なので煎じ薬を飲んでいたとごまかすと、｢わしも風邪で・・・」と飲まれてしまう。一杯が二杯、三杯となって．．。
