North Star of literary fiction !
Brilliant narration ! Le Carré as always elevating the spy fiction to a North Star of literary fiction with intricacies of human emotions , relationships , complexities teased out beautifully . The greys and the shadows lines of human life etched out to leave the reader with an sense of ambivalence .

A erfect sy?
This is not a spy story . This isa story about a spy.. After having read ;The spy who came in from the cold;, my expectations were high and I was disappointed. To be frank, the first eight or nine chapters just went above my head. I couldn;t understand and follow clearly Ibeing a legally blind perso, I had to listen to the audio version). The language was excellent with lots of metaphors thrown about. But why a long and winding account of the father;s misdeeds. Was such a detailed account needed to build up this story? A spy who has a conman as his father, multile mothers, multiple girl-friends and multiple loyalties. Who ishe loyal to? His dad? His country which he betrays? His friend whom also he betrays at some point of time. What does he want? Name, identity, friendship or love? Not very clear. In th e end he runs away from himself afraid of the future trying to justify all his deeds or misdeeds. And that is the way I undestood this novel. I will continue to read Le Carre;s novels, he being such a great writer, uf I have to suggest his book to somebody, this will be the last on the list. Just because, being a Le Carre novel, I had expected far more.
