About this listen

A future Master Assassin rises to take her place in the ranks of the Hidden Ones

Cairo, 824—In the bowels of prison, escape is out of the question. The best Roshan can hope for is a quick death. She certainly doesn’t expect a second chance offered by a cloaked stranger who says Roshan is exactly what they need: Someone who can disappear, who will do what needs to be done, someone expendable …

Granted her freedom, Roshan joins a crew of shady figures assembled to steal a mysterious object being transported along the Silk Road towards Persia. Roshan’s otherworldly intuition proves vital as she fights to stay one step ahead of her backstabbing gang and survive the mission. For her employer holds the key to a world she can’t begin to fathom: a world she might have been destined for all along.

Assassin's Creed Mirage: Daughter of No One by Maria Lewis is a brilliant exploration of Roshan's character, staying true to the persona we know and love from the game. Lewis did a fantastic job of portraying Roshan as the fierce, intelligent, and complex character we met in Assassin's Creed Mirage. What stood out to me the most was how authentically Roshan was presented—her thoughts, decisions, and interactions felt just like the Roshan we saw in the game, making it a rewarding experience for fans.

The novel’s structure is one of the highlights for me. The back-and-forth between Roshan’s present-day journey and her past is an effective storytelling device that adds depth to her character. Each chapter about her current mission or struggles is followed by a glimpse into her past, weaving a narrative that slowly unveils who she is and how she got here. It kept me hooked, with each past chapter providing valuable context for understanding her motivations in the present.

The supporting characters in the story are just as dynamic as Roshan herself, each with their own unique personalities and arcs. I especially enjoyed seeing how Roshan interacted with them—her relationships felt genuine and often unpredictable, which is a testament to Lewis's skill in developing complex characters.

I’m not usually a fan of overly descriptive writing, but I was pleased to find that Lewis didn’t fall into that trap. The writing is succinct and to the point, yet still immersive and detailed enough to paint a vivid picture of the setting and emotions. It was the perfect balance, making the book easy to read without bogging down the pace.

For those who enjoy audiobooks, a special shoutout goes to Samara Naeymi, the narrator of the Audible version. Naeymi expertly brings the characters to life, using distinct accents that add another layer of immersion to the story. Her performance enhances the experience and really brings the world of Daughter of No One to life.

If you're a fan of Roshan from Assassin's Creed Mirage, this book is a must-read (or listen). It gives her more depth and context than the game ever could, and it's a rewarding experience to see her story unfold in such a well-crafted way.

A perfect prequel to AC Mirage
