About this listen

Bertie Wooster has been overdoing metropolitan life a bit, and the doctor orders fresh air in the depths of the country. But after moving with Jeeves to his cottage at Maiden Eggesford, Bertie soon finds himself surrounded by aunts - not only his redoubtable Aunt Dahlia but an aunt of Jeeves's too.

Add a hyper-sensitive racehorse, a very important cat and a decidedly bossy fiancée - and all the ingredients are present for a plot in which aunts can exert their terrible authority. But Jeeves, of course, can cope with everything - even aunts, and even the country. The final Jeeves and Wooster novel shows P.G. Wodehouse still able to delight, well into his nineties.

There's nothing like a Wodehouse novel to lift your spirits and send you into fits of laughter. Right ho!

For my latest Wodehouse outing, I decided to give it a try in the form of an audiobook. And surely enough, the experience was just as rib-tickling. The version that I listened to was narrated by Jonathan Cecil and he did an excellent job adding an extra layer to all of the whimsical and bizarre characters in this book.

If you've read one of the author's books, you know by now what to expect - a protagonist or two to focus on, a set of eccentric characters that surround them, ridiculous coincidences and pristine comic timing on everyone's part. The witty dialogues and punchlines are, as usual, on point and absolutely hilarious.

This is my first foray into the 'Jeeves and Wooster' line of novels - with most of my prior experience with Wodehouse coming from the 'Blandings Castle' series. But no doubt - I'll be popping a few more 'Jeeves' audiobooks in the months to come.

Right ho!
