About this listen

Aurangzeb Alamgir (r. 1658-1707), the sixth Mughal emperor, is widely reviled in India today. Hindu hater, murderer and religious zealot are just a handful of the modern caricatures of this maligned ruler. While many continue to accept the storyline peddled by colonial-era thinkers-that Aurangzeb, a Muslim, was a Hindu-loathing bigot-there is an untold side to him as a man who strove to be a just, worthy Indian king.

In this bold and captivating biography, Audrey Truschke enters the public debate with a fresh look at the controversial Mughal emperor.

I liked it but should've been longer with more details. The narration is good throughout. now I want to dive deeper into mughal history after finishing this!

Helpful in changing perspective of Aurangzeb

the narration is bad - mixed up complied and compiled at one egregious point, diction is good but the modulation is terrible. The book works more as an insightful argument but is light on anecdotes and facts. Expected something meatier

good book, poor narration

Loved the content. Throws a lot context into the man and his life . The narration perhaps could have been better.

A good summary of a very complex legacy

it takes courage to speak against popular modern days tyrant. Aurangzeb was as good or bad as Ashoka but one is considered a villian and another a saviour. that's the selective history and memory. loved your book.

kudos

Should have ordered the kindle version of this book. That way I wouldn’t have had to suffer the innumerable mistakes of the narrator. Just the way the name Aurangzeb was pronounced, ‘Zain’ instead of ‘Zeb’ grated on my nerves throughout the whole narration. Doubt I could have finished the audiobook if it was any longer.
