Publisher's Summary

Matthew Hanson is a forensic phonetician and the best audio profiler in America. He is able to create a psychological and visual profile of people using only tones, noises, dialects and voice colours. Thanks to him, some of the most dangerous criminals are in jail. Blackmailers, hostage-takers, assassins, the critical evidence that brought them to justice - short audio recordings. Hanson is fascinating, charismatic, difficult to see through. And: he is in solitary confinement.

A year ago he brutally murdered a homeless woman. The burden of proof was overwhelming. Hanson himself confessed to the crime and led the police to the corpse. And yet there are questions. Why would one of the brightest police advisers commit such a poorly planned murder? Why does Hanson refuse any defence? And why does he refuse all interviews - even one with the young true crime blogger Julia Abbot, who comes across inconsistencies during her research that could prove his innocence?

Driven by a traumatic incident in her past, Julia is not deterred by Hanson's insistence on his guilt. She decides to conduct her own investigation, which leads her to answers and dangers she never expected.

good thriller

excellent storyline...held suspense till the end. narration was good too. however....background sounds and special effects could be minimized for better hearing of dialogs. sometimes voice of the artists performing characters gets muffled. otherwise an awesome production.

the story is another police mystery but an explanation of the events and confession of criminal (if any) should be added in second part

A Psychological Thriller

Autism was a good listen spread over 7 episodes. The mystery is peeled layer by layer building up the thrill. Though not all revelations sounded relevant or logical. A bit more clarity should have come out about ration between Hansen and Kleminsky.

Taut Pacy Thriller

I completed it in 2 days and this was the first time I was using audible. It is a fast paced thriller but few loose ends or should I say open questions. Is there a part2 in stores?

Awesome Thriller.

The story is captivating. I listened to the whole thing in one sitting. It never slows down or gets boring in any point. Highly recommended.

Can't wait for the English version of Auris 2 & 3!

Once I started listening to it, I just couldn't let it stop! There might be some details in the story that aren't too "reasonable", the story is still full of excitement with its twists and turns.
I have to admit somehow I have guessed the culprit behind everything, yet the truth is no less stunning than it is.
I couldn't help searching for its sequel right after the last episode ended, pity only the German version was available. I hope the English version could be produced soon enough! I just can't wait to listen to it!

There’s a reason it’s free

Average story, drawn out excruciatingly and ruined by some awful acting.
I find it hard to believe a Sebastian Fitzek story could be so brutally mangled

Good fun

In the style of Baldacci or Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme. Maximum plot twists, high drama after the plot exposition is set up. Good narrator - I quite like the soundscapes, even if it feels like it's trying to drive emotions a bit too blatantly - I still prefer good prose. Very professionally produced. Don't count the amount of 'then suddenly' used!

PowerPoint Noir

This is so bad it almost feels like a pastiche. Unfortunately, it's not even good enough at being bad to be that.

The narrator gives it big licks in a noir style, but the words don't match. The writing is clunky, overly formal, has no actual voice. As the title says, it feels like someone is delivering a PowerPoint presentation in a Dick Tracey accent.

The acting is bad. Really bad. They are sometimes surprised by the sentences they are reading, half way through. Maybe that's the moment in dawns on them how bad this is.

I listened to episode 1 and only carried on to the end of it so I could write this review. Thanks, but no thanks.

Also, this isn't free. It's paid for by our subscriptions. It's preferable to the badly delivered self help that's been served up lately, right enough.

It's hard to believe you are the guys who brought us West Cork, the Zeta Family and Karupt FM. Oh, remember those heady days.

Interesting but not gripping

I enjoyed it as a book I could listen to that didn't consume me. The plot was good but the twists were foreshadowed too early and it was a little too like "Seven" or "Primal Fear". Still well worth a weekend listen.

At least it was free

I ignored all the bad reviews of Auris and decided to listen to the whole thing because I love a good mystery story and was sure it couldn't be that bad. It is that bad and the mystery here is how it got published. The lines spoken by different people throughout the story never sound spontaneous, but instead as though they're reading from a script, the narrator's voice changes so you sometimes wonder if he's actually one of the characters which is confusing, emotional responses don't sound the slightest bit genuine and Julia acts like a bull in a china shop, I'd hate to meet her in person. If you can ignore all that and keep listening so you can discover the twist at the end, you'll reach the end and.... the story continues past what should have been the end and does a couple more half-hearted twists, then finishes abruptly on a totally different tangent that just makes you think what the.....? Seriously don't bother with Auris.

Pretty poor.

In my opinion what could have been a reasonable story really didn't provide. It started off pretty well, but lost the plot.
Ended up feeling I'd wasted my time...

weird gap in story between ep 5 and 6

I found it gripping but towards the end it made less sense with a gap in the plot sequence between ep 5 and 6 that seemed to contradict itself and was never addressed, so it was hard to stay immersed after that 🤷
