About this listen

Nabiya Abdel Tawab, known as Manna’a, rose from humble beginnings as a vegetable seller to become one of Egypt’s most powerful figures in the drug trade during the 1990s. Forced into the business by circumstance, she quickly demonstrated exceptional intelligence and strategic thinking, transforming the local narcotics market by offering products of higher purity at lower prices.
Manna’a established a tight grip over the trade in the Al-Bataniya district, outmaneuvering law enforcement for years through a network of hidden warehouses, vigilant lookouts, and careful planning. Her influence eventually extended to international suppliers, earning her the nickname “Empress” for her dominance and reputation.
Despite her criminal empire, Manna’a was admired in her community for her generosity, often supporting neighbors and those in need. Her reign eventually came to an end through a sophisticated undercover operation that led to her arrest. After serving her prison sentence, she chose to reform her life, leaving behind the dangerous world that had once made her both feared and respected.
