About this listen
This week on The Necessary Conversation, we cover one of the most disturbing weeks yet in Trump’s second term — from ICE killing an American citizen in broad daylight, to toddlers being detained and transported across state lines, to Trump humiliating the U.S. on the world stage while openly mocking climate science.
🚨 ICE This Week: Children Detained, American Citizen Killed
ICE escalated its campaign of terror with actions that shocked the nation:
- ICE used a 5-year-old child as bait, coercing him to knock on his own front door so agents could detain his father. Both were sent to a detention camp in Texas despite the family entering the U.S. legally and having an active asylum case.
- ICE detained a 2-year-old girl, ignored a judge’s order for her immediate release, and still transported her to Texas.
- ICE agents killed U.S. citizen Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA, after he tried to protect a woman they had shoved to the ground.
- Pretti was unarmed when shot
- Had no criminal record
- Was legally carrying a firearm before being disarmed
- Was shot 10–12 times despite posing no threat
Kristi Noem publicly lied about the incident. ICE is withholding the name of the agent, denied state investigators access to the scene, and reportedly detained witnesses.
🌍 Trump at Davos: Greenland, Grift, and Global Fallout
At the World Economic Forum:
- Trump rambled about American dominance and his obsession with taking Greenland
- Introduced his so-called “Board of Peace”, a pay-to-play alliance requiring countries to give Trump $1 billion and never oppose him
- No European nations joined — while countries that have previously bribed Trump were invited
In response, China and several European countries began selling off U.S. Treasury bonds, risking long-term damage to the dollar.
🏛️ Trump’s Racism on Full Display
This week Trump:
- Ordered exhibits about slavery removed from the President’s House Site in Philadelphia — erasing the history of the enslaved people owned by George and Martha Washington
- Failed to acknowledge Martin Luther King Jr. Day until after intense backlash, finally posting after the day had already passed
🧊 Climate Disaster & Trump’s Climate Denial
One of the largest winter storms in U.S. history slammed the country:
- Up to 2 feet of snow
- Over 200 million people impacted
- Thousands of flights canceled
- More than 135,000 without power
- 15+ states declared emergencies
Experts explain how climate change increases storm severity — yet Trump responded by mocking global warming on social media, once again proving he doesn’t understand basic climate science.
🧘 Simmer Down
We take a pause to look at Haley’s wedding photos from 22 years ago, offering a rare moment of calm in an otherwise heavy episode.
💬 We ask:
- Should ICE be allowed to detain children and kill citizens without accountability?
- Why is Trump erasing American history?
- What happens when a president openly denies climate reality?
- How much damage can one administration do in a single week?
