About this listen

In this episode, I share a deeply personal experience that changed the way I understand advocacy, consent, and care inside medical spaces. What began as a routine dental visit turned into a moment where my body was signaling distress and my voice was repeatedly dismissed, forcing me to confront how often patients are expected to endure pain rather than be listened to.

This conversation is not about fear mongering or blame, it's about recognizing when something is wrong, honoring your body’s signals, and understanding that speaking up is not disrespectful, dramatic, or difficult. It is necessary.

We explore what it means to advocate for yourself when you are vulnerable, anxious, or afraid, and how power dynamics in medical settings can silence people, especially women and especially Black and brown women.

I talk about the difference between rushed care and attentive care, why pain is information, and how walking away can sometimes be the most protective decision you make.

This episode is for anyone who has ever left a medical appointment feeling unseen, unheard, or unsettled, and needs reassurance that trusting yourself is not only allowed, it is wise.
