About this listen
Welcome to Day 48 of Word for Word: The Bible.
In this episode, we begin Deuteronomy by reading chapters 1–3 word for word. Moses looks back over Israel’s history to prepare the people for what comes next: entering the land God promised.
Today’s reading includes:
- A retelling of Israel’s journey from Horeb toward the Promised Land
- The mission of the spies and Israel’s rebellion at Kadesh Barnea
- God’s judgment on unbelief—and His preservation of the next generation
- Israel’s movements through Edom, Moab, and Ammon by God’s command
- Military victories over Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan
- Moses strengthening Joshua for leadership across the Jordan
Why this matters:
Deuteronomy 1–3 reminds us that spiritual maturity requires memory and humility. Moses does not hide Israel’s failures, but he also highlights God’s mercy and guidance through every stage of the journey. These chapters call God’s people to reject fear, remember His faithfulness, and obey with courage.
Each episode of Word for Word: The Bible includes:
- A brief opening prayer for understanding
- A complete Scripture reading
- A short closing reflection and prayer
