About this listen

Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Texas Weather Podcast. It's Sunday, February 22nd. And folks, the wind is picking up a fight today. Step outside right now and you're feeling 48 degrees under blue skies. Sounds pleasant enough. But those northeast gusts hitting 25 miles an hour? They're turning dry brush into a tinderbox. A Red Flag Warning covers South and Central Texas through this afternoon. Humidity's dropping into the teens. Any spark out there could sprint across a field before you finish your coffee. No burns today. No exceptions. Along the Gulf Coast, a Gale Warning has waves running six to ten feet. If you've got a boat, keep it tied up through noon. Now the temperature picture. Down in Laredo and Corpus Christi, you're climbing to 69 degrees by 4 P.M. Feels nice, right? Rewind to 7 A.M. And that wind made it feel like 35 degrees. Classic bait and switch. Over in Central Texas, you'll top out around 63 degrees near 3 P.M. North Texas? Struggling to crack 57 degrees by 4 P.M. Tonight, Dallas dips to 34 degrees. Patchy frost is possible in sheltered spots up there. Here's where it gets interesting. This cold snap has an expiration date. And it's coming fast. Tuesday pushes South Texas to 79 degrees. By Wednesday? South Texas flirts with 92 degrees. That's 34 degrees above normal for late February. Even North Texas hits 82 degrees by Thursday. We're going from jacket weather to air conditioning weather in three days flat. Fire danger rides along for the whole stretch. A weak front slides through late Thursday, barely enough to shave a few degrees off by Friday. One more sunrise note. We're gaining almost two minutes of daylight every day now. Sunrise at 7:05 A.M., sunset at 6:25 P.M. Keep your grills cold today and tie down anything the wind can grab. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
