About this listen

Good evening. New Mexico. I'm Michael Mosby. In Here's story today, a classic spring battle. Warm air is trying to hold on, but a powerful cold front is knocking on the door. The result? A wild ride from record highs this weekend to a hard freeze Sunday night. Let's look at where we stand right now, central New Mexico is sitting at 48 degrees under mostly clear skies. It's breezy, with southwest winds around 15 miles an hour. If you head north to Santa Fe, it's cooler at 41 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Down south in Las Cruces, you're feeling the warmth at 51 degrees with mostly clear conditions. As the sun sets. The main event arrives tonight, a cold front sweeps through, bringing a dramatic wind shift. Expect strong northwest winds to develop, gusting up to 40 miles an hour in Albuquerque. These winds will be even stronger in the mountains, with gusts potentially hitting 60 miles an hour above 7,500 feet. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the Sacramento Mountains from 3 A.M. Sunday through Sunday afternoon. Folks, this wind combines with low humidity to create critical fire danger. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Capitan and Sacramento Mountains until 6 P.M. Sunday. Any spark could lead to rapid fire spread. Please be careful. As the sun sets. Temperatures take a dive tonight behind the front, central New Mexico drops to 30 degrees by Sunday morning. Northern New Mexico will be even colder, falling to 22 degrees, while southern New Mexico sees a low around 39. Sunday stays windy and cool, highs reach only 55 degrees in the north and 65 in Albuquerque. The south stays warmer at 83 degrees, while the big story is Sunday night. Most areas will see a hard freeze. Protect those sensitive plants! Looking ahead, here's your heads-up for the week ahead, while we warm up fast. Highs climb back to the 70s on Monday, by Tuesday, we hit 82 degrees. The real heat arrives midweek. Here comes record-breaking warmth, with highs near 88 degrees Wednesday and 91 degrees Thursday. It stays sunny and dry through Saturday. See you tomorrow.
