About this listen

Good morning, this is Fort Worth Local Pulse for Sunday, May third.

We're waking up to mostly cloudy skies this morning with temperatures sitting around seventy seven degrees and humidity at seventy one percent. Winds are coming in from the south at seventeen miles per hour, so if you're heading out today, you might want to grab a light jacket. It's shaping up to be a pleasant spring day overall, so it's perfect timing for the final day of Mayfest happening right now at Trinity Park along the Trinity River.

Speaking of Mayfest, thousands of our neighbors have been enjoying three days of live music, carnival rides, food, and local art. The fifty fourth annual festival started Thursday and wraps up today. All the proceeds go back to our community through partnerships with the City of Fort Worth Parks and Recreation, the Junior League, and Streams and Valleys, so every dollar you spend there is supporting local causes.

On the political front, Fort Worth voters have spoken and they're giving their approval to a major investment in our city's future. According to early unofficial results from Tarrant County, our residents have backed an eight hundred forty five million dollar bond package, the largest in our city's history. That money is going toward roads, parks, affordable housing, and a new animal shelter. The biggest piece, five hundred eleven million dollars, will go toward street and mobility infrastructure improvements. Parks and recreation got approval for one hundred eighty five million, while we're also seeing support for library improvements, public safety enhancements, and animal care facilities. This marks the first time our city has asked voters to support affordable housing through bonds, and listeners approved ten million dollars in funding to help lower development costs on those projects.

In another development that will touch your wallet if you work in city government, Fort Worth voters also approved a pay raise for our mayor and city council members. The mayor's salary will increase from twenty nine thousand to sixty thousand dollars, while council members will see their pay go from twenty five thousand to fifty thousand dollars.

If you're looking for entertainment today, Rooftop Cinema Club downtown on Throckmorton Street is showing Twilight at nine forty five tonight. And if you're into competitive gaming, the BLAST Premier Fort Worth Rivals esports event continues today at Dickies Arena.

Remember, Mayfest continues through this evening at Trinity Park, so if you haven't made it out yet, today's your last chance to support our community while enjoying some great entertainment.
