Hell & High Water tells the story of the voyage of Arka Kinari, a traditional sailing vessel which also transforms into a floating stage for a performance by Filastine & Nova.

Arka Kinari has spent five years in the Indonesian archipelago, and has nearly circled the world, hosting performances, workshops, and cultural archiving sessions focused on education around climate change and promoting cultural survival. Hell & High Water shares the many stories of this voyage, in a first person narrative, enhanced by sound design and music.

Hell & High Water is a captain’s log shared as an oral memoir, a voyage through seas and sound, an exploration of unnatural histories and uncertain futures. Listeners will be immersed into the true and ongoing story of Arka Kinari, an ancient rusting sailing ship transformed into a cultural platform to sound the alarm for the climate crisis. Together we’ll visit mega-ports and stilt villages, navigate through cyclones and plastic gyres, explore post-nuclear atolls, be hosted by sultans, threatened by soldiers, blessed by shamans, while sailing through scenes of sublime beauty and terrifying war. You can’t know the end of this story, because we don’t know it either.

A creation of Grey Filastine. Launching June 21, 2026, with new seasons dropping each solstice and equinox.
