April 1987, a Saturday night just after midnight on a gravel pull-off outside Meridian, Mississippi. Luna's cousin Paulie brought her there on a dare — to see the old Carver house, a two-story farmhouse that had been empty since the Carver family disappeared in 1973. Paulie said the front door opened on its own every night at 12:07. Luna didn't believe him, but she went anyway. The story that follows is about what happens when you wait long enough for a door to open — and what it means when it does. They sat in the cab of his pickup with the headlights off, watching.
