Have you ever been lying in bed, unable to sleep and found yourself wondering how birds know where to go in winter? Or what's actually at the bottom of the ocean?

That's what this podcast is for. Each episode, a calm voice sits with one of those quiet questions and slowly, gently unfolds it. There's no rush and nothing you need to remember. It's a bit like a bedtime story, except the story happens to be true.

Dim the lights, get comfortable, and let a little wonder carry you off to sleep. Episodes are about twenty minutes long, but you're welcome to fall asleep before the end. In fact, we hope you do.

New episodes weekly.

  • WHISPERED WONDERS - 002 - WHY DO WE DREAM?
    Jul 17 2026

Every night you slip away into a private world no one else will ever see.

Tonight, let's wonder gently about dreams, and drift off along the way. Welcome to Whispered Wonders. Tonight's wonder: Why Do We Dream?

Every night, when you fall asleep, you go somewhere. A strange and secret country where you can fly, where the dead are alive again, where a familiar house has a room you've never seen. You visit it three, four, five times before morning, and by the time you wake you've forgotten almost all of it.

Everyone dreams. Even newborns. Even animals. And for all our science, no one can fully say why. In this episode, a calm voice wanders slowly through the mystery of dreaming: The discovery of REM sleep and the moving eyes that gave it away, the way your sleeping mind weaves whole worlds from the loose threads of the day, and the gentle possibilities for why we dream at all. To sort the day, to soothe the heart, to rehearse for a world that doesn't always feel safe. We end softly, among the stranger corners of the night: Forgotten dreams, recurring ones, lucid dreams, and a reassuring word about nightmares.

There's nothing to memorize and nothing you need to do. Follow along if you're curious, or let the words blur and carry you off to sleep. Either way is exactly right. Settle in, lower the lights, and let your thoughts grow soft.

  • WHISPERED WONDERS - 001 - WHY DO WE SLEEP?
    Jul 17 2026

Every creature on Earth does it, yet we rarely stop to ask why.

Tonight, let's wonder gently about sleep... and drift off along the way. Welcome to Whispered Wonders. Tonight's wonder: Why Do We Sleep?

You'll spend about a third of your life asleep. Twenty-six years, given over to the dark. It's a strange thing for nature to allow, and yet every living creature does it. In this first episode, a calm voice wanders slowly through the quiet science of sleep: the rising tide of tiredness that pulls you under, the tiny clock in your brain that keeps time with the turning world, the slow descent through each layer of sleep, and the unseen "night shift" that repairs your body, washes your mind clean, and turns the day into memory. We end, softly, in the strange country of dreams.

There's nothing to memorize and nothing you need to do. Follow along if you're curious, or let the words blur and carry you off to sleep. Either way is exactly right. Settle in, lower the lights, and let your thoughts grow soft.
