Story
One day, six towers appear on Earth. Each one stands hundreds of stories tall, and are invulnerable to all attacks. At the base of each tower is a portal, welcoming in all who dare enter it. All sorts of magical monsters can be found inside the towers. Even treasure, magic, and superhuman strength can be acquired. The problem is that the towers aren't a friendly place. Even worse, the towers sometimes release waves of monsters to attack Earth. In the year 2083, there are only a hundred survivors. In one last attempt, they challenge the final floor without regard for their lives.
Publisher's Summary
Jack Kross only wanted to play the game. Now he’s fighting for his life.
When a mysterious hacker takes control of Hundred Kingdoms, Jack is trapped inside the fantasy VR world along with millions of other players. But Jack is in a worse predicament. He’s cornered in the very tower the terrorists have taken as their base; the only free player left within its walls. Even worse, in the real world, his body lies in a sweltering room with no hope of relief.
Playing the profession-based Scavenger class, and at a low level, Jack’s prospects of fighting his way out are next to impossible. Crafting gear, traps, and weapons, allying with a deadly dungeon master and an AI he can’t fully trust, Jack is in a race against time to save not just himself but the millions of players held hostage.
Battle Spire is a meeting of World of Warcraft and Die Hard, using crunchy LitRPG mechanics with a heavy focus on crafting. Listeners can expect to find in depth item and spell descriptions, along with stat tables and profession recipes.
Note: strong language is used throughout.

Good story with excellent narration with one flaw.
I will start by saying the narrator is very good and portrays a good realism to the story. Having a scavenger as a class is great and what happens is a nice surprise. However, there is one thing in this book which I couldn’t get past and could only get half way through. The MC (main character) makes me not want to read more. This main character is a jerk, cocky, and whiny all at the same time. I don’t mind character flaws but dang is this character just unlikable. This might have been a portrayal of a gamer and as far as personality is not far off. I guess my problem is that there is no virtue to the character. Only out for themselves. I actually was really enjoying the world around him... just not him and I sadly had to stop reading. A Litrpg hinges on a couple elements. World building, MC, and adversity.

Not So Crafty
First of all, Soundbooth Theater always makes an awesome production. It's easy to give a book a few extra stars just due to their performance, but I just can't do that in this case.
I just couldn't get into this book as I thought should, and for the life of me I couldn't put my finger on it at first. It was a lot of little things, and then I realized the problem. It's the game mechanics. They don't feel consistent, and sometimes goes against the rules of the game as previously laid out. For instance, the MC makes an attack that uses all of his 1K mana, and seconds later he expends 700 extra mana, without any explanation as to where it came from. When you're reading a book, you have to suspend your beliefs and delve into this new fantasy setting and accept the new. But when the rules of the universe aren't consistent, you start to see little holes in the tapestry of the story. Most of the time you can ignore them, but sometimes there are one too many and you think to yourself 'I don't believe this could happen'. Once you hit that point, you start looking at things harder. The more I listened, the more items didn't seem to make sense, and that just killed the story for me.
If you are able to ignore all of that, you might have a better listen than I did, but all that I can give this is an OK review score.

Feeling Crafty
This is a fun read with excellent writing and great narration. Mr. Miller takes a self-centered individual and moves him towards "other-focused," outlook on life. The great thing is he did it in a fun and exciting way. I was disappointed book 2 was not already available when I finished Battle Spire.

Classic GameLit!!!
Great story and Narration!
Jack is a collage student. Jack sneaks into a seedy part of town to get his game fix without his family finding out. Unfortunatly his plans get highjacked when terrorists take over the game and disable the logout feature. What else can go wrong, and what can Jack do about it?
The Soundbooth crew do a great job with the narration!
The the MC starts off whiny, he show great personal development and growth throughout the book.
I loved this book, and cant wait for more from this author!

An interesting story well told
As with most of these stories the casual introduction of a fully scalable artificial general intelligence is slightly jarring. However this story has a new take on the trope. The main character’s naïveté regarding certain potential outcomes is also a little jarring considering how far this is set in the future and that he seems to have had a good education.

Imagine Home Alone meets Die Hard, in litrpg form.
If you are looking for a main character (MC) with overpowered abilities taking down giant monsters and armies of mobs and creatures... This isn't for you.
If your looking for a powerless MC relying on his creativity, ingenuity and a few hobbled together tools and shenanigans, to overcome impossible odds...this is more your cup of tea.
It is so refreshing to see a litrpg hitting all the right marks; good world building, an MC with human flaws, game mechanics with well defined limitations and last but not least. No harems, not even a shoe horned romantic interest.
Also thanks to the quality voice acting at sound booth, each character has their own feel and personality. The voices were very expressive and natural in a way that just let you immerse your self in the story.
I am hard to disappoint, and easily pleased so please take my positive review with a grain of salt. if you do not like litrpg, or are unfamiliar with the genre. The game like nature may be off putting for you.
I was lucky enough to get this book for free through a promotion, but this review was made off my own initiative As thanks for receiving such an enjoyable experience without being asked for anything in return.

Really good Crafting and Action
Im always impressed when someone comes up with a novel way of playing the game so it is with Battle Spire as our main MC manages to take advantage of a situation and craft/loot his way up the ranks whilst taking on seriously high levels with nifty tricks and ingenious use of materials.
I enjoyed the story behind the main action and i think the characters have a lot of potential for a lot more stories.
Narration is from the usual SBT crew so is spot on as always.

Prime example of a LitRPG
It's a complete story and has a complete arc. Really well written with not too much stats to make me bored of listening to numbers, but just enough for it to all make sense.
Also loved the clear and excellent voices of the narrators.

I really enjoyed this one and hope a 2nd book is coming soon although I'm not sure the author could write anther to this standard.
The lead character is excellent and Elle is a joy to listen to - and scavenger is the kind of role that I would love to play since I can't shoot/aim to save my life lol (give me a sword though...) 😉

Diehard meets Sword art Online
Overall it's a well narrated and interesting story that while slow to start I found myself enjoying. If I had one complaint however it would be the MC. Who for most of the story tended to come off as either a jerk or a cowardly jerk that obsesses over making money from the game well past the point of common sense. Despite being in a literal life and death situation. It's not till much later that he starts to change and become a semi-decent person. So if you don't mind that then i would recommend giving it a listen if you have a spare credit lying around.

bad MC
I find the main character to be so stupid, he is incompetent and rejects people who help him, he's constantly wants to prove too his parents to let him be a professional gamer. he has a terrible personality and isn't straight forward at all (like the author is trying to draw it out) when there is obviously something to gain and is just a usually stupid incompetent jerk. Although the reading is done very well.
