Bear Grylls' Survival Stories
- Length: 2 hrs and 40 mins
- Categories: Biographies & Memoirs, Adventurers, Explorers & Survival
Publisher's Summary
World-renowned adventurer and broadcaster, Bear Grylls, presents some of the most incredible near-death experiences, told by those who lived to tell the tale. These extraordinary and diverse accounts of human bravery, mental and physical strength - and sometimes sheer luck - range from being stranded for more than 50 days at sea, to surviving world-changing acts of terrorism.
Bear contextualises each feat of endurance or bravery by relating them to his own experiences of near-misses and misfortune from his military career and survivalist adventures. Listeners will experience the firsthand retelling of acts of quick thinking and gruelling struggles of those who found themselves in some of the most extreme circumstances imaginable.

it was interesting
When starting this audiobook, I was expecting Bear Grylls to read the stories or recount his survival stories but it was different people recounting their survival stories. It was good but this felt more like a podcast than an audiobook.

Very inspiring
Wonderful production with a take home message. To hear the story in the survivor's own voice makes it even more interesting. Life after a mishap is an opportunity to spread the message of hope to others.

Inspiring
Thank you for this. Gratitude for a second chance! This is my main take away from this whole series. And not letting these traumas cripple you for life. Please keep them coming. Bear Grylls, thank you so much. - from another survivor.

good
a list of all types of disasters and their experiences is a good one but can be much more interesting. A shark attack, a tsunami, new York City towers crash and many.

A Bear Necessity!
These are quite inspirational in places and every single one of them made me really think about just how resilient human beings can be. The fact that these are told straight through, I suspect by clever editing of interviews, by the people themselves makes it much more real. Each of them will likely touch most listeners in some way, whether it's the utter horror of what occurred such as actually being in the jaws of a bullhead shark, the sheer flukes of chance that can lead to survival or the devastating after-effects of the events. All of them are impressive stories in their own right that will likely live long in the memory. The one that will stick with me personally the longest is the story of Aron Ralston, which although you may well have heard it before, is an amazing story of grit and fortitude when most of us would have folded through the loneliness and extremity of what the situation demanded of him to survive. To hear him talk about it is pretty much jaw-dropping stuff and somehow brought it to life in ways that even the well-made film of the events '127 Hours' could not. Bear Grylls and the production team, almost exclusively let each person tell their own story completely with Bear providing his thoughts on it briefly afterwards. As admirable as his own achievements undoubtedly are this is wise and although they are using his name to 'sell' this the real stars are the individuals and their stories. Very well worth the time to listen to this.

Over produced
Stories were interesting but the repetition and length of intros was irritating if you listen to more than one

Entertaining snippets of human survival
Each episode was probably too short and therefore somewhat tabloid in delivery by getting to the gore pretty quickly but perfect for that short journey and gives rise to plenty of discussion/thought as to what you might have done in a similar situation. As it was a free download I can't complain anyway!

Emotional and Inspiring!
These are very emotional stories and made my eyes Water on numerous occasions but aside from listening to their devastating experiences , the survivers and Bear himself conclude each episode with a positive and uplifting look at the human bodies miraculous tenacity and will to stay alive. I would highly recommend taking a listen yourself. Simply incredible and inspiring.

Frightening stories of survival
Stories are a little short and each chapter has to be manually loaded, but still a good listen

Intro and outro downgraded it
I really did not like when Bear Grylls was talking. Also the intro and outros were too long I did enjoy the retellings of the survivors though.

Solid stories with lessons
A classic well chosen selection of stories, that put you in the front seat of these all too real accounts of some of the most enduring moments humans have been placed in... each story could easily be a movie in its own right...

Real survival stories.
Great to listen to real life survival stories, although I felt each story is somewhat cut short and does not give an account of what life is like now, 5/10 years on. Still worth the listen.

Dont like Bear but loved this series
I am not a fan of Bear Grylls at all but these stories are really good. They were exciting, harrowing and at times heartbreaking stories told by those who had lived them and for that I am appreciative.
