Story
Ambitious ice queen and corporate lawyer Felicity Simmons has spent her life focused on one thing: scuttling up the career ladder. She's achingly close to taking charge of a media empire for her boss when she's sent to investigate a South Bronx charity that helps homeless people's pets. Has the charity made off with her boss's generous donation? And, who on earth is that gorgeous soft-butch veterinarian who looks as if she could toss a Shetland pony over one shoulder? Not that Felicity has any interest in some opinionated Amazon or her adorable fleabag of a dog.

Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

Publisher's Summary
Life has become a farcical mess for icy British A-lister Elizabeth Thornton. America's most-hated villain stars in a top-rated TV medical drama that she hates. Now, she's been romantically linked to her perky, new co-star, Summer, due to the young woman's clumsiness. As a closeted actress, that's the last thing Elizabeth needs. If she could just get her dream movie role, life would be so much better. The only problem is that the eccentric French film-maker offering it insists on meeting her "girlfriend", Summer, first.
Summer Hayes is devastated when her co-star shuns her for accidentally sparking rumors that they're lovers. Now the so-called British Bitch has the audacity to ask Summer to pretend to be her girlfriend to get her a role? Elizabeth doesn't even like Summer! Oh, how she'd love to tell her no. And Summer definitely would if it wasn't for the fact she's maybe a tiny bit in love with the impossible woman.
Contains mature themes.

Definitely a good read.
This book is definitely a good read. Absolutely loved the ending. I really liked Elizabeth and Summer’s characters! They both were so perfect for each other. Complete opposites and yet perfect!
Not going to give any spoilers but this book is definitely one of the good one’s from the LGBTQ romance section!

An exquisite and splendid read
I was not sure about this read. This book is really a splendid read and takes you to a romantic yet realistic world of two different yet similar character. It is not a short story but possess the character. It ends on a positive note and I would definitely like to know what happens next to all the characters.
Angela Dawe's narration gave it an additional joy to hear.

A sweet, beautiful & sensual lesfic.
After listening to the story narration, I consider myself lucky to have not purchased this book on Kindle & rather listened to it on Audible... Superb narration by Angela Dawe, made the story come alive in my imagination. Both, writer Lee Winter & the narrator Angela Dawe, have really gone on to produce a piece of magic.

Winter and Dawe: double trouble!
I regularly find myself in trouble after finishing a Lee Winter book, as no other book on my to-read list seems capable of holding my attention.
This edition of Breaking Character pairs Winter's exquisite writing with a masterful performance by Angela Dawe, and the result is... double trouble!
How am I supposed to listen to another audiobook after *this*? 😭
This audiobook raises the quality bar for the genre, and I would highly recommend it.

Ice Queen Heaven
I loved this book so much when I first read it. Now, on audio, it's even better. Lee Winter has a way with ice queens. And melting them. If I only had 50 books that I was forced to read & re-read for the rest of my life...this would be one of them. Oh, and Angela Dawe's narration is wonderful.

This book is now in my top 5.
I wasn't expecting to like this book much. I don't mind the ice queen storyline, but I've never been into the Hollywood scene in lesfic. There was one review that convinced me to give it a shot. The narration and expert accents (to this plain American) totally drew me in. The storyline kept me listening from start to finish with no breaks. I loved the humor, the plot progression and the love between the two. This will definitely be a repeat listen for me!

Entertaining Book!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Angela Dawe is an excellent narrator, whose different voices, accents, and intonations bring the entire cast of characters to life. Summer, a former child star is trying to cross the bridge into adult roles. She is a cast member of Choosing Hope, a hit medical drama starring renown actress Elizabeth, who has become disillusioned with her role as hated villain in the show. A phot of Elizabeth grabbing Summer to prevent her from a fall leads Hollywood types to speculate on their “romance,” which leads to movie roles, a fake relationship for the movie, a friendship, and finally something much more. It is a charming story!

Fabulous
Wonderful book. Great storyline with fully rounders, believable characters.
I loved the ‘slow burn’ of the developing romance and the added bonus of fake girlfriend.
The sex scenes were great.
Angela Dawe deserves special mention. The narration of a book an make or break it. Angela Dawe makes this book. Her narration is wonderful - eg - different and distinctive voices for the characters. Her English accent wasn’t half bad! Her voice has a lovely cadence and timbre to it.

absolutely bloody fantastic
I've never given a review even after the hundreds of books I've read and audiobooks I've listened too. This has got to be one of the best books ive listened too the story was just fantastic so enjoyable, Lee Winter u are a genius and Angela's performance was the best audiobook I've ever heard and that's saying something never thought I'd ever enjoy a performance more than Abby Craden but here it is. Angela's voices were spot on I'm British and I couldn't hear any fault with her british tone at all, her voice for Elizabeth was so captivating I'm going to listen to this book over and over again that's the rest of my year planned out lol. 😂😂😂

My first Lee Winter experience
I bought this with a bit of trepidation, since most lesbian fiction tends to fall on the cringe side. However after reading some reviews I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did. The characters are so full and addictive, the development of the relationship between Elizabeth and Summer is absolutely superb. I finished this within days and I am off to indulge myself in the works of Lee Winter.

Complete & Utter Perfection!
This audiobook is absolutely exceptional! I adored every minute. The narration was mindblowingly incredible. I couldn't cope with all emotions the story evoked inside my very soul. I wished this book was at least 10 chapters longer. I didn't want it to end. I binged it in under 24 hours, barely slept and genuinely feel like I'm a little bit in mourning now it's over.
This is my first Lee Winter book, but it won't be my last. She is an incredible storyteller and has solidified herself as one of my new favourite authors. Her slow burn "real feelings romance" that blossoms from the main characters' "fake romance" is glorious, utter torture in the BEST WAY! I was on tender hooks the entire time. Lee's descriptive imergery is impeccable. I was transported to LA and the sets of Hollywood. I was submerged into Summer and Elizabeth's world. My senses went into overload, as if I were almost experiencing everything the characters were experiencing. As a aspiring filmmaker it was like an explosion of colourful scenes playing out in my mind's eye.
I got a very good sense of all the characters core personalty traits. However, the leading ladies, Elizabeth and Summer, were in a different league all together. They were both so beautifully complex, well-rounded, compelling and 3-Dimensional. I adored both of them equally. Lee's writing, combined with Angela's narration, transcended the confines of the page to the point where the leading ladies felt so real and their chemistry was sizzling. I, especially, loved how Summer and Elizabeth broke the mold of who they appeared to be. Summer appears to be a sweet, innocent, girl next door, but she is a firecracker. She is so kind, fiesty, loyal and stands up for what she believes is right. Elizabeth appears to be a trademark IceQueen and all around "British Bitch", but she has such a huge heart. She is so strong, kind, yet surrounded by masks and walls to protect herself from tidal waves of hate. It's intoxicating to behold.
I can sum up Angela Dawe's narration in 2 words: perfection personified! She is one of the best narrators I have ever listened to. She amplified an already exceptional story to whole new heights. Every single character sounded and felt distinct, her accents were fantastic and believable, but her voice for Elizabeth...Well, let's just say it did things to me in a very visceral way.
I hope and pray to the Sapphic Goddesses that Lee will release a full-length sequal (or even a Novella) to this masterpiece (specifically about Elizabeth & Summer's future). I can't recommend this book highly enough. I know for a fact, I will return to visit Summer and Elizabeth many more times to come!

Needs a Brit-picker
I like this but half the stuff about the UK is nonsense. I was holding my peace about the idea that the British people + tea thing would mean that Elizabeth wanted a specific special blend from a specific special cafe (like, I’m sure one of us, somewhere, would prefer that to Yorkshire tea… Maybe?) But the idea that she went to study law at Cambridge and then switched to drama?!
I’m trying to suspend my disbelief but it’s super jarring. Couldn’t a British person have just skimmed it first?
The rest is great though.
Ok update: everything I said is true and a real thing et peeve for me, but I am further through and so, so, into this story. Like, the Brit bits are still jarring but it’s worth it for the characters and story. I don’t think authors read these but just in case one does, I want to be fair, because I’m 100% going to get more books by this author. And the narrator who is also great. The others probably don’t have British characters either.

OH. MY. GOD
what a book.
I was just casually skimming through something light and easy to listen to and did not expect this book to be as great as it is. it was captivating from the very beginning, not to mention the performance from Angela Dawe is one of the best I've heard in a long, long time. she captures the characters so perfectly that I never wanted it to end. and when it finally did I listened to it again.
this book is highly recommended for anyone who wants humour, angst, lovable characters, great story telling and simply a memorable love story.

Another one by Lee Winter I had to finish in one sitting
First of all, Angela Dawe is AMAZING with all the different character’s accents. It really made it easier to follow the story with all different kinds of accents separating them.
The story is really layered. The leads are never one dimensional and it’s really well written. The backdrop of the story Hollywood or Saving Grace is really well researched and it’s just very in-depth. I loved how close to home she wrote about medical drama. I couldn’t help but think if Grey’s Anatomy ;)

Enjoyable as always
First time listening to Breaking Character and it was even more enjoyable than reading it! Love most of Winter's books and have found Dawe to be an excellent narrator! her Kiwi accent is really good - not as good as her Scottish but still good! Being Australian myself, I'm particular about the accent and know both my favourite narrators (Craden and Dawe) drop the ball on the Aussie accent, which I forgave because they're so good at the overall story (although it was distracting and prevented total emersion into the story). Regarding Chloe's Kiwi accent though Dawe did an awesome job and I honestly loved hearing her take on all the characters.
The book was very entertaining and had a great plot. Both MC's were strong and very lovable ...Summer a little extra lovable (again, her voice suited her very well!). Winter's ice queen/feminine love tropes are the best, and as such this does not disappoint. Whilst characters struggle with certain things in their lives I don't feel like the book is heavy on angst, which I love! Another smart read from a great author that has been narrated very well.

Kind of boring
I had this in my wish list for a long time and was saving it for a rainy weekend because of all the positive reviews. I felt a little bored on the story line. I was waiting for the angsty, build up but never really got it.
TLDR; we have Summer (a young rising closeted gay actress) working with an older, grumpier actress who is being slated as a monster by the directors of the show. They don't hit it off straight away, but Summer is persistently trying to get her attention. Then out of nowhere they are linked romantically and have to do a movie together. They then gave to get to know each other because they are trying to convince a movie director that they are in a relationship.
My problem with the romance part of it was that there didn't seem to be a reason for Elisabeths change in heart and Summers persistence...anyways I liked the sexy chapters but that took a while to flourish too.

It’s official, I have a Serious Problem
I have now listened to all of lee winters back catalogue, and my girlfriend has given up trying to interrupt my listening. Even when the plot (eg holywood) does not interest me, I find myself connecting with characters humanity and their sizzling chemistry. Without too many spoilers, I also love that a wedding trope was avoided, power embalance addressed, men not hated. Guilt free ethically.

Predictable but satisfying
The only thing that does this light and enjoyable romance a disservice is the narrator’s absolutely terrible attempt at a kiwi accent.
I enjoyed the book a lot and found it hard to push stop.
The character of the kiwi housemate Chloe was a caricature of a New Zealander- obviously the author just googled “New Zealand facts” and tried to put in a few random quotes to make it believable for those who don’t know. The accent and the sentence structures were a mix of overdone rural slang and Australian outback! Apart from that, Summer and Elizabeth’s voices were pretty well done (even though Elizabeth feels 10-20years older than her character is supposedly). I’m still rating this book as a good light read, just beware if you’re a kiwi, the accent will grate!
