Really Really good, but....

From start to finish I was engaged and taking notes. Practically a therapist on your phone, really good actionable tips and insights from someone who really understands being under the influence. However I wish there could be a new edition of this book with revisions as at times it felt a little dated.
Presumably at the time the book was written high-speed internet adult content was not as prevalent as it is today. Internet content was only occasionally mentioned in-passing and only remedy was to just "set up rules".
it referenced magazines, adult shops, adult movie theaters and topless bars (the latter of which I had to look up because I didn't believe such places existed).
While the principles are still the same and they still are effective such as practicing mindfulness and persistent self dialogue that helps with discipline.
I feel like it could really use an update, barring that its still worth a listen.

Very Helpful in learning to think differently!

I have truly been helped by this "audio" version of this book. Now I recognize I have a problem and that my behavior is not "normal adult" behavior.

This book HELPS

Any additional comments?

This book deserves 10/10. Listening to it consistently has cleansed my mind of sexual thoughts. It's given me a healthier mind. When I stop listening to this book for a week, I end up relapsing, but then I start listening at least an hour a day again, and I no longer feel like I'm a slave of my sexual desires.

I struggle with depression, so masturbation offers a temporary way to relieve stress, and gain pleasure, but it's bad long-term. Thank God for this book.

The road to recovery is long, and steep, but this book functions as a rope that keeps you from falling back down.

I believe it will work ..

Firstly, it's narrated well. He sounds similar to Sam Harris, they both have voices that are easy to listen to for extended periods.

I believe this book has been the first thing to actually make a difference/change to the rest of my life. I've listened to other books that simply demonise p*rn and explain the personal troubles the actresses have etc and how you shouldn't feed the industry by watching it.

But this book truly helped me understand that I do indeed have a problem, and how widespread and subtle that problem can be! Lots of lightbulb moments and practical advice shared.

If you think you should listen to this book, then do. You won't regret it, I promise.

Profound

You sometimes read self help books that have stories and examples that vaguely touch upon on the issue you’re trying to get help with but it doesn’t quite resonate and ends up being of little use.

This book is not like that at all. It resonates with me, big time. Most of the way through the book I was repeatedly saying “that’s me!”.

And despite already being
on my way to total abstinence before I found this book I found the exercises and techniques very useful and effective. I’m more confident than ever that this affliction that has dogged me for over 30 years is finally buried for good.

Highly recommended.

Makes a genuine difference in my life

This book is the best I have found in helping me with my struggle. it is filled with highly practical ideas and suggestions and has led me unintentionally into a deeper spiritual life. I cannot recommend enough. I have read many books of this type on this subject- this spoke to me directly.

Really good

Narrator is excellent. Content is very very good. George shares some really good insights and strategies, and is very honest in his own path to counselling and writing the book. It can become a little repetitive in later chapters but still relevant. My advice would be to take notes as you go, and a break after each chapter to allow you benefit most from the assignments.

Great book

Great book! The bag of tools in this book are life changing for those with a sexual addiction. Having tried a 12 step program for sex addicts, this book is a good handbook for folks to have on hand as they do the program. I personally found the 12 step program too extreme for my situation; whereas this book with the tools and advice it contains was far more useful and applicable to my situation. The tools are many; with each addressing different aspect of sexual addiction and at different levels. If used well together, it packs a formidable punch into acting out. Doing the exercises I could see the results almost immediately. Great book highly recommend ! And a big thank you to the author!
