Publisher's Summary

"A thrilling journey inwards as much as outwards.... A must-read." (Freida Pinto)

"How fortunate a thing it is, when life alters you without warning."

Lisa Ray is one of India's first supermodels. She's also an actor, a cancer survivor, a mother of twins through surrogacy. She is a woman who has lived many lives. And this is her story.

Close to the Bone is an unflinching, deeply moving account of Lisa Ray's life, tracing her childhood in Canada as the biracial daughter of an Indian man and a Polish woman, her rise as a popular Bollywood star and her battle with a rare, incurable cancer. Transporting and atmospheric, it takes listeners across the world, from Toronto in the 1970s, when Lisa was desperately trying to find place and purpose, to the intense, frenetic streets of Bombay, where, unmoored and lost, she began her film career; from the hot and sweaty sensuality of Colombo, a place where she finally began finding acceptance, to the romance of Holland Park in London.

At once funny, charming and gut-wrenchingly honest, Close to the Bone is Lisa Ray's brave and inspiring story of a life lived on her own terms.

A life worth knowing

Lisa didn't confine herself in one thing. Life should be explored like hers. Her narration is intimate.

Eloquent, engaging and entertaining

This book delves into the nuances of illness and recovery from a refreshingly honest perspective. More such stories about recovery need to be heard as they are insightful and so very powerful!

best part of the book is the fantastic use of vacubulory. else, it is just a story of a person, no different from the story of many.

Amazing life story and narrating!!

Lisa Rani!! an amazing soul... I knew very little about her until I decided to listen to her autobiography.... Initially, it took time to get hooked to her story, but not very later it starts creating interest ... An unbiased account of the life story is something very few people dare to publicize ... and most importantly, there is no judging of any other person who came into her life .... Lisa Rani 1.0 and Lisa Rani 2.0 depict that both the lives were and are being lived to the fullest .... 1.0 is a life full of serendipity .... to go with the flow of events of the life ... 2.0 is more of an understanding of the emotions and feelings of other person in one's life .... a more responsible self .... whatever she did in life she gave it a 100% ... that is something to definitely take away from the autobiography .... the way in which she narrated her story makes the readers get closer to her and experience life along with her .... Hindi words used intermittently sound a bit funny but cute ... In the end I would give her my blessings and loving kindness .... May she live on to be with her caring and loving husband, enjoy her children grow and inspire more souls!

Stunning & intelligent

I'd admired Lisa Ray since I saw her in the Bombay Dyeing ad back when I was still a school kid. And even after all these years, her hypnotic voice has me completely mesmerized with a well-crafted biography that truly took me on an epic journey. Bravo Lisa, and thank you for this exquisite book.

Incredibly honest, catchy and real!

Lisa Ray was a familiar name from amongst celebrities in India. Everything else unknown about her has been narrated so succinctly and engaging way by her in own voice that this book is likely to remain a treasure to be revisited periodically!
