About this listen

Dark Island begins as the Napoleonic wars are drawing to a close. The year is 1815. On the battlefield near Waterloo, a surgeon-major in the Highland Brigade tends the mortally wounded padre.

When the wars are over, to honour a promise to his dying friend, Aeneas Graham, the surgeon journeys to a remote Hebridean island called Erismore. This small , seemingly Christian island becomes a mystical and supernatural setting for another battle against menacing forces, Satanic and villainous, which stifle rumours of murder and corruption.

This powerful and gripping story by Nigel Tranter was orginally published under the title Island Twilight.
