Publisher's Summary

Freelance writer Jaine Austen has never been able to resist the siren call of an Eskimo Pie, just like she can't resist renewing her romance with Andrew, an old crush. With her bank account hitting new lows, she's also just agreed to write jokes for Dorcas, a stand-up comic who throws her pantyhose into the audience as a punch line.

Not only is Dorcas' act a bomb, she is heckled by Vic, a gorgeous fellow comic. Naturally when Vic is murdered with Dorcas' pantyhose and that same Dorcas is standing over his dead body, the police arrest...Dorcas. They figure it's an open-and-shut case, although Jaine figures no killer can be that dumb.

But when Jaine sets out to find the real culprit, she is distracted by one dating disaster after another with Andrew - and she may not see the dark side of comedy until she faces the business end of a gun and a cold, deadly grin....

Absolutely Hilarious

This was one of the best yet in the series. Not only was it funny, but well written and thoroughly engaging. As always, Jaine and her father get into all types of silly situations that made me gasp and blush with shame. I couldn't put it down. I'm hooked. I bought the next three books and will buy the rest of the series as well. I highly recommend this series. The narrator does a great job with the voices. Even though I don't like Prozac, I love the way Brittany Pressley brings her to life.

I love me some Jane Austen!!

Laura Levine's Jane Austen series is one of my favorites. I am reading them in order, and keep thinking that eventually I will get to one that is not as funny and entertaining as the others. But I'm not there yet!

Jane Austen is a fun character with all the insecurities and plan bad luck, that we all think we have. She is a light and always enjoyable read. The mystery this time is unique and fun, if not somewhat silly. But don't we all need some silly in our life sometimes? I also, did not figure this one out, which is a good thing.

highly recommended!

My favorite series

With three of my favorite things (cats, humor, and mystery), these books never disappoint! Jaine is a very relatable character. Her life is full of mishaps and she is far from perfect. That being said, the author manages to make this all very humorous. I love the little emails with her quirky parents - hilarious side stories! A little sad that this book did not include the retirement home setting, but perhaps that storyline has ran its course. Still a very amusing story, with a great mystery that keeps you guessing! And (spoiler?) a cute romantic end scene too!!

As always, loved the narrator! She does a great job of conveying each character's personality. You aren't ever confused as to who said what because she does great voices. Overall, loved it!! One of the better books in the series, although I enjoy them all.
