About this listen

This is a new reading of the thrilling account of one of the most astonishing feats of exploration and human courage ever recorded.

In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world.

Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains. The book recounts a harrowing adventure, but ultimately it is the nobility of these men and their indefatigable will that shines through.

This book is an epic journey, a story that is an incredible tale of Shackleton and his 27 men's fight for survival and getting out safe and alive from the cold, harsh and unlivable southernmost continent on planet. These men endured hardships and difficulties beyond imaginable. It's a story of human will and determination beyond everything else.

The book is detail oriented and so well written that you would live the book with these 28 men. You would travel, eat, endure, believe and be heartbroken as if you were the 29th person of the party. The book is un-put-down-able. You will be on a pilgrimage of sort while reading it. Moving and marvelous.

Un-put-down-able, jaw droppingly heroic, a tale of 28 brave men , beautifully written by and so wonderfully performed by Simon Prebble, There was not a moment to be missed and the narrator did a fabulous job keeping the reader on the edge of the seat . The writing itself is so magical that you feel like you're bodily transferred on to the icy terrain , salt water spraying on your face , and the ice cold weather piercing your skin. This is not a book, it's literally an experience of a lifetime and you will not regret having it in your library!!!

A riveting tale

I still don't not believe that it is a true story, but it is.
