In this indispensable guide, we discover that sticky messages of all kinds draw their power from the same six traits.

Publisher's Summary
Finally a go-to guide to creating and publishing the kind of content that will make your business thrive. Everybody Writes is a go-to guide to attracting and retaining customers through stellar online communication, because in our content-driven world, every one of us is, in fact, a writer. If you have a web site, you are a publisher. If you are on social media, you are in marketing. And that means that we are all relying on our words to carry our marketing messages. We are all writers. Yeah, but who cares about writing anymore? In a time-challenged world dominated by short and snappy, by click-bait headlines and Twitter streams and Instagram feeds and gifs and video and Snapchat and YOLO and LOL and #tbt... does the idea of focusing on writing seem pedantic and ordinary? Actually, writing matters more now, not less. Our online words are our currency; they tell our customers who we are. Our writing can make us look smart or it can make us look stupid. It can make us seem fun, or warm, or competent, or trustworthy. But it can also make us seem humdrum or discombobulated or flat-out boring. That means you've got to choose words well, and write with economy and the style and honest empathy for your customers. And it means you put a new value on an often-overlooked skill in content marketing: How to write, and how to tell a true story really, really well. So being able to communicate well in writing isn't just nice; it's necessity. And it's also the oft-overlooked cornerstone of nearly all our content marketing.
In Everybody Writes, top marketing veteran Ann Handley gives expert guidance and insight into the process and strategy of content creation, production and publishing, with actionable how-to advice designed to get results. These lessons and rules apply across all of your online assets - like web pages, home page, landing pages, blogs, email, marketing offers, and on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media.

Great writing, good story, TERRIBLE narration
What disappointed you about Everybody Writes?
The information is GREAT, but the gal who narrates it terrible. She over-enunciates, reads super slowly and has zero personality. I highly recommend you just buy the hard copy.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Cynthia Barrett?
Perhaps the author, who seems to have a great personality.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Like I said, the info is great, but listening to the narrator made me want to rip my eyeballs out...or just fall asleep.

Seriously awful voiceover ruined it for me
Would you try another book from Ann Handley and/or Cynthia Barrett?
Unsure at this point
What could Ann Handley have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Used a better voice talent, as well as getting to the point much quicker instead of repeating over and over about what she WILL be covering later in the book. Seems ironic given the topic of the book.
Would you be willing to try another one of Cynthia Barrett’s performances?
No way

So much data I'll have to buy the hardcopy
Ann Handley's book is a major reference guide to online communication and content management. The only problem is that she is constantly tossing out cites or references that I didn't have time to write down. This really is a root point from which your understanding and knowledge in this field can grow.
Books like this can live or die on the abilities of the reader. Cynthia Barrett is the reader you would want if you were to pen a book like this. The sparkle in her voice keeps you uplifted and interested through out the book, hers is a very special talent. After listening to her read this book, I think she could read the NY phone book or chant the Bronx Yellow Pages and have you singing along with her.

Dreadful voiceover spoilt this excellent book
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Women into unicats and unicorns
What do you think your next listen will be?
Steven Pressfield, his mellow voice is soothing
How could the performance have been better?
Different person doing the voiceover would have made a huge difference.
I lasted less than 5 mins of the breathless screechy drone, it was like nails on a chalk board. The narrator was sadly the worst I've come across on Audible -- so disappointed! Spoilt the experience and anticipation completely.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I'm going to buy the book and read that instead, having glimpsed the book in a store it looked a pretty good read and have followed Ann Handley's excellent blog for a while.
Any additional comments?
Read the book and skip this audio recording. Was disappointed my money was wasted :(

Narration of the books really ruins it
Any additional comments?
The narration of this book is really unpleasant. I would way rather listen to a book written by the narrator anyday. The performance of this book is so sterile and fake sounding. There is no life in the reading what so ever. I'm not sure weather its a good book or not because I could not get past the narration.

Great content, very helpful, but book peppered with verbal reading out of URLS and referring to visual examples that are on a separate file. got a bit awkward at times of someone reading out 'h t t p : / / w w w dot website name dot something forward slash something dot something forward slash something...'.

Persevere
The value and wisdom Ann shares far outweigh the annoying letter by letter reading of URLs. Why on earth they didn't just state at the start that a landing page of key resources could be found in the show notes, or something, I'd beyond me.

This might be a good book...
This might be a good book...
...but the chances are that you'll struggle to endure the abysmal delivery - unless you enjoy being read to by someone who sounds like she's teaching elementary school kids whilst off her box on downers and happy pills.
This is just painfull to listen to, and playback speed-changing playback produces awful artefacts: the nett result is that you'll either fall asleep or want to punch the reader in the mouth and tell her to ..."get on with it, for God's sake!".
Whatever else this book has to say about writing content, its most potent lesson is how not to read and present an audiobook.

Packed with useful stuff, so basically you can say
that she passed her own main benchmark, namely to help the readers.
Mind you, I am almost afraid to write a review now, as an alumnus of this audiobook it would be a big faux pas to make any error.
She saves the best till last, the resources at the end are worth the price and the time of listening alone.

Worst Narrator Ever
I couldn't get very far in this audiobook because the narrator is so infuriatingly awful!! I tried to listen to the points being made by the author but it literally sounds like Alvin the Chipmunk reading the book. Totally given up.
Don't bother. You'll get more value by just buy the printed version.
Cynthia Barrett should find a different job more suited to her - where speaking is not required!

Play on 1.5x speed
This is my current listen, I'm about 2 hours in. I really wanted to enjoy and learn something from this book. Sadly, the narration is terribly dull and to make the pain worse she speaks very slow. So far the book a chore to listen to.
My advice is to listen to the book on 1.5x and then the narrator will be speaking at a normal conversational speed.
I will have to re-listen to the book once I've finished because there are many many times where I found myself asking "what is she talking about?".
As others have mentioned, the content is probably brilliant, but it's let down by bad narration.

time for a 750 word review...
...I'll save that for something else. good read. picked up a lot of points. I'm very technical and was one of them people who did think writing was too descriptive for me. I only now think that is true for the English literature lessons I used to have in school. when I'm writing what's on my mind or what I want to write about I can write a lot and well. I like the tip about first draft. I do spend silly amounts of time getting caught up in best way to present. then forget what else I had to say!

A genuine "how to" guide
Something I really needed to up my writing skills, a guide that simply tells me what I should or shouldn't do, but give me the choice to stick to the rules or play my own game knowing what to expect.
I wish the accompanying PDF had more files in it and perhaps to include all the links mentioned in the book. Would have been easier to follow with my own research, but other than that, it's a must read to any aspiring writer.
