London, 2019. Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections and money, he’s never had to work, and he’s rarely slept alone. It was just a typical Monday. Until the big boss asked me to make the pitch for a prospective new client. After two years on shaky ground at work because of my screw up, an opportunity to impress the senior partners was just what I needed. Or so I thought, until I walked into the conference room and collided with the man I was supposed to pitch to. My coffee spilled, my files tumbled to the ground, and I almost lost my balance. And that was the good part of my day. Because the gorgeous man who crouched down and looked at me like he wanted to eat me alive was none other than my ex.

"I gape at him"..."Oh Christian"...
"Oh my 50 shades" . Save me now. I grew so tired of hearing the same lines repeated over and over, so I gave up on it. Poorly written. Why is this so popular? Don't waste your precious credit on it.

Utter rubbish
What would have made Fifty Shades Darker better?
More about the story of the two people rather than their very boring sex life. I feel stupid for buying it, really stupid. I loved hearing about Christian's lifestyle but that's about it.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Becca Battoe?
Someone who doesn't say "oh my!" every third sentence in that revolting accent.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Annoyance
Any additional comments?
The first book I managed to read, this one I just couldn't bear.

Torn
I found this really difficult to rate - it does get you in - but its the classic girls meets screwed up millionaire. The plot is weak and predictable - you think that there is going to be some drama some suspense but it fizzles out.
Focused way too much on having sex every five minutes - but with more in the story line even that could have been forgiven.
Its pretty much Mills and Boon on steroids. If you want an easy listen that wont keep you awake at night this is it. Oh and just a tiny bit of day dreaming about being with Mr Grey and his money lol

Steamy love story
Ana and Christian get back together and continue to try and make their relationship work, despite various differences.
Despite being cheesy, I cant help but enjoy the romance and fictional characters in a cute and predictable story. It was sweet, steamy, different, and overall enjoyable.
The narrator did a good job and provided an entertaining performance.

Imagine
What made the experience of listening to Fifty Shades Darker the most enjoyable?
It had so much details one could actually see it
What other book might you compare Fifty Shades Darker to and why?
To kill a mocking bird by Harper Lee, it gave the same details never leaving no doubt as to where it took place, what was used or seen, even the weather. It left nothing to wonder about.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Becca Battoe?
Yes, but I would prefer more voices. Example a man's voice for the man and female voice for the female etc.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I could have but prefer to listen a bit at a time.
Any additional comments?
If possible can more voices be added?

'Fifty Shades' or 'Fetch My Spade'
I'm sure by now that most of you have heard of the international best-seller Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James, probably well aware of its somewhat 'naughty' content and, according to its blurb, "romantic, liberating and totally addictive" storyline. Having suffered emotionally (and needless to say, physically) as a result of successful entrepreneur Christian Grey's unrelenting need for control, we saw main character Anastasia Steele flee from his apartment at the end of the first book. Now, in the second book, she faces him again. But have things changed? Maybe they have in terms of their relationship, with Christian offering Ana a new proposition which may be more suited to her weak personality (well, at least she's no Bella Swan). However, for those seeking a more literary read/listen, then I would strongly advise looking elsewhere. There's been no change in this department from book one. No wonder James has not printed her full name on the front cover; the book appears to have been written by a 16 year old schoolgirl with an unrealistic perception of sexual intimacy and the importance of achieving a good work-life balance (Grey earns an apparent $100k per hour, yet 95% of his time is spent courting excitable young Ana). Aside from the obvious lack of writing skills used in the second book (actually, make that the entire trilogy), the audio version is even worse. My first thoughts on the audio book were that the narrator, Becca Battoe, did not whatsoever convey the mild personality of Anastasia Steele. Next, as Christian's and others' voices were attempted by Battoe, I almost laughed. Her strong accent and rather annoying intonations did nothing to add to the voices of the characters, especially during her ridiculous try at Dr. Flynn's British accent; in fact, I found them rather intolerable. Altogether, this was a thorough waste of my money. But, hey, I'm sure there are a lot of 16 year old girls this mind-numbing audio book would make very happy.

read all reviews before buying ....
This book sounds great but the narrators voice is terrible, really irratating, which you wouldnt pick up on from the sample but as she has to repeat the same awful 'Oh My's' and 'Holy Sxxt's on average every couple of minutes it really goes through you.
Very dissapointed with the end which completely left me feeling a bit ripped off for the credit i'd wasted. I suppose its so that you will feel compelled to buy the next book but honestly it wasnt good enough to waste more credits.

Even if you liked the first, you won't enjoy this
What was most disappointing about E. L. James’s story?
The pathetic lead became even more uninteresting and limp in this book, and the attempt at bringing some kind of story line in between badly written and repetitive sex scenes was almost amusing, but not amusing enough to tempt me to continue listening.

What did you like best about this story?
book two really brings the story together.defo best book in trilogy by far.

On the downward spiral but I still read it!
After the first book, I felt I needed to get the rest of the story - the sex almost got in the way tbh because it was same stuff in different places with different extras!
After I'd finished it, I couldn't possibly have told you what happened - it is probably the least memorable of all three books.
I won't comment on the actual language/words - not to my taste - sorry.
Still glad I listened - sometimes just being able to discuss the current hyped stuff is enough!

mixed opinions.
this book should be narrated by both male and female voice overs, but still good

Sadly!
The narrator leaves this stormy novel cold and unfeeling. The story doesn't work well read aloud.

Great Listen!!
I really enjoyed listening to the book I found becca's voice to be perfect for the age and I also enjoyed her enthusiasm. but I hated listening through the emails why read each emails date, time and signatures it was very repetitive and annoying.. other then that I was obsessed :)

Enjoyed
I giggled and actually cried
Although the writing isn't the best the story is great- a great distraction from reality.
The narrators voice takes a little while to warm to but you do get used to it.

Zachary Webber’s voice is mesmerising
It might sound weird and some may think over the top, this series written by EL James really is life changing.
I love each book of this seri both Anastasia and Christians POV.
Thank you EL Jame

A lot slower than the first book
I kept thinking the book would produce something good. Then the end came and I was disappointed.

boring & predictable
I kept reading these books as I thought there was something I want getting. but after giving the second book a go I'm still confused why this series is popular... it's this kind of ridiculous love story that gets woman into such unhealthy relationships. Don't bother!
