Publisher's Summary
A true modern classic, Fight Club is a darkly comic tale of love, rivalry and the lengths men will go to when they need something to make them feel alive.
Every weekend, in basements and car parks across the country, young men with good white-collar jobs and absent fathers take off their shoes and shirts and fight each other barehanded. Then they go back to those jobs with blackened eyes and loosened teeth and the sense that they can handle anything.
Fight Club is the invention of Tyler Durden, projectionist, waiter, and dark, anarchic genius. And it's only the beginning of his plans for revenge on the world....

The First rule. you do not talk about Fi### ####
Can't believe that it's 2 Decades old. Loved every single chapter and the narration. It's very difficult to see this sort of writing style in the books nowadays.

Great book, great performance
Any additional comments?
When I first saw Fight Club back in 1999, it rocked my 16 year old self's world. It rocked the world of everyone around me. It was strange and new and different and violent and it made us think - which was completely unheard of at the time.
I watched it at least 50 times since, and to this day I consider it as one of the greatest movies of all times. But for some reason I never got around to read the book it was based, until now. And so, here are some thoughts:
1. This is a great book. Really. It was as good as promised and I highly recommend to anyone. Palahnuik is a great author, and I enjoyed every book of his I read.
2. Most surprisingly, hearing this book made we appreciate the movie adaptation even more. I completely understand each and every change and edit done to the story, and it is one of the only times I can think of where I can't honestly say that the book is better than the movie. They are very similar but in some ways also very different, and both of them have their own qualities.
3. That said, written violence always hits me harder than graphical one*. There were parts of the book I had to stop myself from fast forwarding.
Highly recommended
*pun definitely intended

So good!
Not better nor not worse than the movie!
Was very interesting hearing his split personality speak in narration only as opposed to with the visuals of the movie.

Enticing and, of course, better than the movie.
As usual, the book was better than the movie (at least in my personal opinion), especially when it came to the more dramatic, psychological moments.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes i would recommend this audiobook to others. Because its well written and narrated. Many people know this story, from the movie with the same name, and the book dont dissapoint.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the story, even thoug i have watched the movie many times, i still enjoyed listning to this audiobook.
What does Jim Colby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
i think Jim Colby did a great job narrating this book. the sound went a lilltle up and down sometimes, but else great
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Some of the few scences there is in the book, but not in the movie was exciting to hear.

Similar to the movie.
This was an exhilarating book even though I have already seen the movie. The movie and the book were very similar but the book made everything feel more complete. I still think that there might be 3 personalities in Norton...

A Lesson Learned
The first rule about "Fight Club" is not to judge a book by its cover, title or the film trailer. I hadn't really bothered with it because a book about clubs set up for blokes to simply fight sounded a little on the basic side for me . . . but when Audible had it as their daily deal I thought "Why not?", I needed something that would not engage my brain too much.
CLANG! Utterly wrong Simon. The troubled lead in this one and the scattered exploration of his hugely troubled mind is a genuine literary journey. There is far more depth to this than meets the eye. I was really impressed by how the opening scene and the ending bring things together with the same scenario and almost the same words yet meaning something so different.
I still don't think this will appeal to everyone but one thing is is not is a simple book about blokes knocking each other about for kicks!

The first rule of Fight Club...
I imagine a lot of people who listen to this novel have seen the film first. I did. For me the joy here was unpicking the twist of the narrative - which I won't spoil here - but seems even cleverer in written form. The film is very faithful to the text, but I appreciated having details and episodes fleshed out further. It certainly packs a punch.

Read the book
While the narration of Jim Colby is fine, it fails to reach the same heights as Edward Norton's narration in the film adaptation (of which I am a huge fan). I do realize that this is an unfair comparison but the damage is done - by watching the film - and the audio-book suffers for it, even though the text is excellent and Jim Colby narration is good.
I would recommend reading the book instead of listening to it.

better to read
I love this as both book and film and have read and seen both a number of times now. However the audio book was let down by the narrater, Jim Colby's reading was good enough but he just didnt hit the mark this time. if you havent read the book you should get this but if you have its not worth bothering.

The narrator is rubbish and the volume changes between chapters. Doesn't do the book justice.

Masculinity, truth and the madness of modernity!
Great stuff, a modern classic on everything that is wrong with society and both the successes and failures that masculinity suffers in modern society. This is an existential journey that most men will relate to in one way or another. A sojourn that I feel drawn to again and again helping those that read it to stay in the moment and push themselves. A must for every modern man!

Sleazy and grubby. An excellent book!
I loved the movie and enjoyed the book thoroughly. This is one of those occasions where seeing the movie first might not have been a good idea because the film seems to have put the book on screen to perfection.
Of course, the movie makes the LOOK fairly glam, just verging on the grubbiness and filth of the book, but the story was up there, complex and distorted as it was on the page.
I was surprised to see the ending was somewhat different, but preferred the novel, although I can see it did not necessarily have the LOOK of the film, it still hit me as a reader just as hard.

Excellent novel excellently read
This was my first audiobook in over a year, I resubbed to Audible in hopes of kickstarting my reading for 2019 and Fight Club was the first one I came across that was on my TBR, which I also recently culled. So.
Fight Club is a book I have always meant to read, as the film is one of my favourites, as I'm sure is the case for many people. What struck me listening to this was how incredibly well the film captured the writing style of
Palahniuk - it is written in a very interesting, train-of-thought way which you don't come across very often. I haven't read any other boks of Chuck
Palahniuk's, so I don't know whether this is normal style, but I really enjoyed it. I have a new appreciation for how faithful the film was to the book.
It provides a very believable and, at times, cringeworthy insight into the mind of someone who has achieved all his meagre goals and has found his life wanting as a result, moreso than the film as we spend more time inside the protagonist's head in the text. I can't remember many points where the narrative wasn't consistently interrupted by the snarky voice in his head interjecting with non-sequiturs or observations, and it all felt very real to how people in that kind of situation would go through their days.
As for the audio, Single narrator (which is somewhat fitting), but lends a different voice to both the protagonist and Tyler, as well as other characters, without becoming caricatureish and painful. An intense performance, and very well done by Jim Colby. This would be a great first audiobook to recommend - not too long, and well produced. Probably tied with the Jurassic Park audiobook by Scott Brick for my favourite I've listened to so far.
I look forward to my next one, as my car rides feel somewhat empty without the Protagonist, Tyler and Marla's existensial ramblings filling my ears.

Too brief to build a great story.
It's a great story and well written but it lacks the length to really build the characters and let you get into it. The writers of the film have done the hard work and filled in those details for us. Having watched that first I was forced to rely on the film to carry the story and the characters. It's a shame as the writing is otherwise interesting and creative and the plot is revolutionary.

Fascinating Listen
I really enjoyed this book. The narration was excellent. It's a fascinating look into the world of fiction vs reality...how easy it can be to trap yourself in your own delusion..

Great book
I feel like i was falling down psychological rabbit holes quite frequently listening to this. Some of the ideas, tangential thoughts, were things I had not comprehended before. It was interesting as a book. The ending shocked me.

Epic counter culture bible ; the movie tracks pretty close to the book. A couple of extra insights here that didn’t make the movie (which was all time itself)
