Publisher's Summary

Finnegans Wake, the greatest avant-garde novel of all time, was first published 70 years ago - and people are still trying to work out what it is about. There is Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker - aka HCE (Here Comes Everyone) - and Anna Livia Plurabelle, but also Finnegan the hod carrier (or was he a giant?), whose wake is the subject of the book. This is a masterly reading of the abridged version, with copious notes aiding comprehension.

Critic Reviews

"Listening to Jim Norton and Marcella Riordan is a lot easier than trying to read the book." ( The Guardian)

Incomplete

This is probably the best way to read Finnegan's Wake -- have a copy of the book in front of you and listen to the audiobook at the same time. And Jim Norton reads well (I haven't got to Marcella Riordan's part yet) and you can almost make sense of the sentences, which is as it should be. However, there are gaps in the audiobook. Suddenly he starts on some paragraph which is elsewhere in the printed book and you have to stop and search for the right place. Right now I'm completely lost, can't figure out which page he's reading from. So I guess the only thing to do is give in and just listen to the audio, but I feel a little cheated.
The audiobook starts with an old song about Finnegan's Wake, which is nice -- gives you some sort of context.
