Publisher's Summary

Just like Rapunzel from the fairy tales, dreamy, romantic Amy lives a hidden life. She's kept locked away in a tower for her own safety, with her sister as protector. Amy knows it's for her own good. If a dragon catches her scent, she'll be carried away and forced to become a drakoni's mate. But Amy has a secret that she desperately wants to be stolen. She would love to be rescued from her life of idleness and the thought of a devoted drakoni male charging in and saving her from her boredom sounds perfect to her.

Of course, she wants a romantic, loving male who will adore her. What she gets is Rast. He's not kind. Not romantic. Definitely not gentle. But he is utterly and completely obsessed with Amy and he'll stop at nothing to make the delicate female his. Contains mature themes.

Excellent 3rd Volume, Beauty & the Beast Partners

Ruby Dixon has created another great story in the Fireblood series this time bringing us Amy, who is the sister of the main female Claudia from the first volume in this series. Amy has been kept hidden away and longs to be free and we see her pick up from where the last volume left off sneaking to bring a male dragon in by leaving her scent outdoors to be found and rescued.

In the same style as the others in the Fireblood series there is a pairing where a male dragon (in this one Rast) is attracted to a female he decides is his mate and their contact and connection help clear the madness the dragons experience in this realm. Again we see a large focus by the male on wanting their partner to be pleasured and consenting to whatever they do as well as feeling very possessive and protective and a desire to impregnate their mate.

Unlike what I was expecting from the description on the audible page the dragon Rast is incredibly protective, patient, and gentle with Amy repeatedly countering her own internal self-criticism. But this does have a very different dynamic especially from the last volume where the female in the pairing held lots of control. Amy is painted as an innocent who can do nothing to withhold any of her feelings or thoughts from her dragon partner, and he is very paternalistic and possessive controlling the partnership, shielding his thoughts from her, and keeping her isolated from others. This is why it had a much more Beauty and the Beast feeling to me of keeping the female pleased and well cared for as long as she stays in the castle.

However, Ruby does an excellent job of developing Amy and more than the other heroines in the previous volumes I feel like Amy changes more than any of the other prior females in the series. By the end the audience really gets to see the rise in strength in the character and a sense of genuine pride from her dragon mate. As with all the volumes there is a great deal of story in these volumes continuing to build the world, expanding the territory to new forts, and involving new characters. The characters shown feel very real and alive and are interesting. I was surprised that Amy herself did not fall flat or boring with her innocence but became more intriguing and full as the story progressed, finding her voice and place.

Noelle continues to do an excellent job as narrator bringing the story to life, I still am not really a fan of Jeremy's narration for the male characters, which is totally just my own auditory preferences. Jeremy does a great job with the appropriate inflections and clearly took the time to try to embody the characters and I would love to hear him read other narratives just not this one.

Overall I think this is a great addition to a wonderful series, and again as Ruby has done with each of the other volumes in the series she creates the beginning of a bridge setting up a character that will serve as the new protagonist in the next story. I don't take this as a cliffhanger but something that creates an easy transition and allows the audience to get a taste of what the new pairing will be like. I actually really enjoy this. If you are looking for an immersive world, sci-fi twists, with slowly developed sex scenes, and slowly increasing interconnected cast of characters this volume and series are worth your time.

Simple & Perfect

This entire series is so simple and relaxing with light drama and tons of sex...I have no complaints. It’s exactly what i needed. It won’t keep you up at night, it won’t leave you on a cliff hanger, it WILL make you want to boink a dragon man. This book was perfect for listening to at work but I would be too embarrassed to recommend it to a friend.

Great dragon shifter romance!

This fourth book in Ruby Dixon’s series was just so much fun to listen to. The heroine, Amy, is a girl who is living with her pregnant sister and her dragon shifter mate. She isn’t allowed to go anywhere and has to drench herself in perfume in order for her sister to hide her from rogue dragons. But secretly, she wants a dragon mate of her own. One day she purposefully drops her underwear outside, to try to lure a mate. Well, he shows up and he’s wilder than she expected! Gradually they fall in love with each other as her presence slowly calms him. Then, on a trip to help a colony who sent a SOS by carrier pigeon, they have to confront a bunch of outlaw slavers. The narration was well done.

Why all the talk of virgins? DNF

This is the first audiobook by Ruby Dixon I could not finish. So Ice Barbarians, okay, you can let a lot go in terms of logic because it's aliens, set on another planet and all. , But this book, there are just too many unbelievable inconsistencies for me and I must be in the minority, but I feel I must tell you some things as your editor clearly did not. First, the lead character drones on and on about virginity. Ms. Dixon, being a "virgin" is a social construct. It is not a "real" thing. And my woman-wanting-equality-heart couldn't hear the word "virgin" one more time or the supposed shame in her own sexual desires (even if they were feigned). Women are either experienced or not. Nothing special happens on your first time having sex. Your hymen, if you even had one, is long gone by the time you are in your late teens unless you never moved your entire life (or you are incredibly unlucky). Around the world, girls and women are still investigated and interrogated forcefully to have virgin tests and are abused and beaten or sometimes even killed depending on whether or not these test results show if they are a "virgin" or not. Something that there is no physical proof to prove one way or another. "Virginity" is a word made up by men to keep girls and women in their place. I highly doubt in a dystopian world this would be something that someone would still be obsessed with. Especially when her sister is talking to her about not masturbating, but then in the same breath deems it too embarrassing to talk to her about having sex with her forever mate and dragon and explaining that that's how you become telepathic with your dragon mate. Or the whole thing, why would her sister want to keep her from getting her own dragon mate in the first place when she and all her friends had one and apparently it is the best thing ever? These things were very difficult for me to understand and perhaps I could have let it go if it hadn't been for all the "virgin" talk. It was believable that as a handicapped person she had never had sex given the dystopian world, I totally bought that, but I doubt in dystopia-dragon-land when she is shacking up with her sister and her dragon who are always having sex, the idea that they wouldn't talk about it, or that she would think she was doing something "wrong" by having sex was just unbelievable. The one thing you did do right is that at least she orgasmed first and there was no bout that it was any trouble, another misconception made up by men. In the future or dystopian-dragon-land I hope that women will be, hopefully, more sexually aware and none of this "shame" or "virgin" speak, that belongs in the past when men told women what they had to do and who they had to be. Obviously I am in the minority on these views and most people loved your "virgin" talk so having an equality woman probably doesn't sell many books.

How to Train Your Dragon - A Bug’s Life

So we know the drill by now, right?

Girl meets dragon.

Misunderstandings.

Lots of sex and isolation.

They fall in love.

They battle something together.

The end.

Why do I love these so much?!? There’s a certain lack of real angst that is sort of refreshing. The definition of pure escapism.
It’s the small differences in personalities and conflict that keeps me reading I guess.

In this book we do have Amy coming into her own and becoming a bad ass in her own right. Is it because of her know-it-all and slightly overbearing dragon? Yeah. But who cares? It’s still fun to see! And Rast is a bit different too. He... rolls over a bit less readily. He’s a bit more gruff. More set in his ways. You get the impression he’s maybe older and more experienced than our past dragons, less open to experimenting. He’s just as devoted to Amy though and it’s like a breath of fresh are when she “escapes” her loving sister and her mate and into the arms of, well not her Prince Charming dragon but Rast.
By the time Amy and Rast get to Port Shreveport they are closely bonded and shagging like bunnies. The situation there is “ A Bug’s Life” with Amy and Rast playing the circus bugs and giant terrifying robin... but not fake. Did I lose you? Ah well. Go read, if you enjoyed the others you’ll love this too!

This Series Continues To Impress

I absolutely loved the relationship between Rast and Amy. They were both strong, loving and witty. I enjoyed the banter between both of them and the physical attraction between them was amazing.

sweet amy

I loved Amy's story. Her revolution from damsel in distress into fierce heroine was the best so far.

Story is weak but similar to the others

The story felt elementary in nature. I didn’t really have a vested interest in the characters. Amy was whiney and too immature for an apocalypse. I didn’t care too much for the story . I was interesting how these women hates the dragon then uses them for their own gain . Amy’s dragon decides he doesn’t was want to do something . Her response to him “ you don’t get to make the choice” this woman can barely walk, can’t feed herself and want to use him to bully people. She just wasn’t like able to me

Fire in his fury

This one was so slow to start. There was really no story line untill chapter 22. Before that it was just very graphic sex scenes. To which got boring and I started to fast forward through. Loved the ending though and got super excited towards the end. Looking forward to the next one.

***Oh my drakoni***

Amy and Rast love story is so beautiful. I felt both their intense emotions specially Amy feeling unwanted and useless, it is so amazing how she wishes for her prince charming to come rescue her and freeher and swept her off her feet and take her away. But instead she got Rast lol a battled scarred commander who works under the evil salorian(i really hate those creeps). Thanks to the narrators their excellent as always.
