About this listen

Are you finding it tough to fund your start-up? Especially in the post-COVID-19 world, where money is scarce? Well, then, this book is for you. It takes you through stories of early-stage start-ups and how they successfully managed to raise funding. Even better, it takes you through stories of failures-start-ups that couldn't raise funding, and why. After all, you can learn as much from failures as you can from successes. The authors also interview some of the most accomplished founders in the world of business, such as Deep Kalra of MakeMyTrip, Yashish Dahiya of PolicyBazaar, Dinesh Agarwal of IndiaMART and Sairee Chahal of SHEROES. Their stories all come together in a useful 'PERSISTENT' framework, which helps make a start-up investment-ready. Looks like I'm the first to review this book and boy... I have some strong opinions. I'll try to keep things helpful.

If you're a 20 something college pass-out who wants to be the founder of a unicorn but have no clue about what the company will do or what a business plan is or are still learning how to give a business pitch in 10 mins or less, this is the book for you.

I'm a professional with 15 years of experience who has identified a opportunity in the market and am trying to learn about the intricacies of fund raising. I bought this book because I'm be meeting someone who has been through the grind and I didn't want to go to the meeting unprepared. The narrative style and content of This book was like sitting in one of my daughter's online classes. There were several times in the book where the narrator specifically tells me to pay attention as this bit is important - just my daughter's teacher.

Everything is dumbed down. Calculating equity split post funding is 'advanced mathematics'. The narrator babies me as he helps me understand what a business plan is. Same thing with how to give a business pitch.

If you're someone who is diligent enough to spend sometime on the Internet reading up on things, skip this book. It is a waste of money and more importantly, a waste of time. I actually listened to all of the chapters hoping that at some point it will contain some useful information. Nope.
