About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The Genius Makers tells the story of AI from pioneering days to current achievements to future potential. At the same time it takes the lid off what has effectively become an arms race between Google, Microsoft, Facebook and OpenAI, in which Google may be the clear frontrunner at present, but Facebook has shown itself to be both nimble and innovative, and OpenAI, the company recently founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman, has made itself the confident upstart of the pack. Each of these companies represents something unique in the development of a technology that offers both extraordinary potential and extraordinary risks. Their personalities and business strategies are already changing the tech landscape in dramatic ways. And they will continue to do so.

As well as explaining and exploring artificial intelligence and showing how individuals and companies are reaching for it, The Genius Makers also poses serious ethical questions about the technology. Should we even be pursuing it? How will strong AI change humanity? Will it carve out a giant hole in our job market? Are these companies blinded by the riches this technology will bring? Are they forgetting the existential realities of creating machines that behave like humans?

Written by an expert who has exclusive access to each of these companies - and others who are working in this field - this is a rich, character-driven narrative that captures an extraordinary moment in the history of technology.

Good read on the evolution of AI. Reading could have been better, more neutral. Had to strain to understand the accent.

Good read on evolution of AI

This book would serve as the foundation for the future, essentially the origin story of 'revolution', should that D-day eventuate. However, the term 'artificial intelligence' is a relatively recent phenomenon, with its roots tracing back to the 1950s and 1960s.

I was taken aback to discover that there was a period known as 'AI Winter' in the past, during which there was no discernible progress in AI development, and then all of a sudden, there was a significant surge in progress.

The progress in AI has been so extensive and significant, that the expectations of AI outlined in the Book have already been exceeded.

We are advancing at an unprecedented rate in AI development, although the ultimate objective is to construct AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) that is on par with human intelligence, which I believe is still quite distant, but we have made substantial strides towards this aspiration. We have equipped AI with sight (image recognition) and hearing (speech recognition) capabilities, and it is merely three senses away from learning and adapting.

A good book to understand the origins of AI and it's masters

With so much of data around AI in the internet, one might get confused what to refer. this book is excellent place to tap the information at first hand. The way the whole narrative is organized make the whole experience of listening quite thrilling and engaged. Thanks for the book publisher and the whole team in bringing out this gem to the world.
