About this listen

From the age of uniformity.
From the age of solitude and doublethink.
From the age of Big Brother.
From me, Winston Smith.
Greetings.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Starring Andrew Garfield as Winston, Cynthia Erivo as Julia, Andrew Scott as the alluring, mysterious O’Brien, and featuring Tom Hardy as Big Brother, Audible presents a new dramatization of George Orwell’s classic tale. An immersive listening experience like none you’ve heard before, at a time when it has all never felt more chillingly relevant.

Featuring a haunting original score composed by Muse’s lead singer and songwriter Matthew Bellamy and Ilan Eshkeri, recorded by the London Metropolitan Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios, the production is directed by BAFTA Award winner Destiny Ekaragha, produced in Dolby Atmos by Granny Eats Wolf, and dramatised by Olivier Award nominated writer Joe White.

Also starring Chukwudi Iwuji, Romesh Ranganathan, Natasia Demetriou, Francesca Mills, Alex Lawther and Katie Leung.

Featuring Ian Abeysekera, Rachel Atkins, Grace Baker, Joanna Brookes, Clare Corbett, Doug Devaney, Imogen Front, Sam Garioch, Raj Ghatak, Frances Jeater, Mason Moore, Yasmin Mwanza, Harry Myers, Kaelum Nelson, John Sackville, Sienna Sangha, Sam Stafford, Jo Troy, Jenny White, Sarah Whitehouse & Alix Wilton Regan

This adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 is an immersive listening experience, containing scenes that some may find uncomfortable. Listener discretion is advised.

Available in Dolby Atmos.

Nothing, absolutely nothing. This is a perfect mirror for today's world. Never let go of your freedom.

Probably the best show I've ever heard. Andrew Garfield, I love you

Of all the renditions of this classic, this audible rendition captured the true haunting atmosphere of a society gripped by totalitarianism. Tom Hardy as The Big Brother…well well well. The despair, paranoia, hopelessness and inevitability in Winston Smith’s life is painfully captivating.

Though much shorter than the other renditions, this is massively impressive for its sound effects and feel. A totally worthy listening experience if you understand the subtleties of Orwellian dystopia.

Utterly fantastic rendition of the old dystopian classic!

This is one of those books that gives you Goosebumps while listening. The performance is just outstanding. Well, this story of 1984 by George Orwell written in 1948 about a future where the Government takes complete control of everything. A totalitarian society lead by Big Brother. The protagonist of the story is Wilston Smith.

The story takes place in Airstrip One (formerly England), part of the superstate Oceania, which is ruled by the Party under Big Brother. The society is highly controlled, with constant surveillance through telescreens and the threat of the Thought Police. Every Party member is watched at all times. The telescreen in Winston’s apartment cannot be turned off, and even the smallest sign of dissent can lead to arrest by the Thought Police. The working-class “proles” live with less surveillance but are kept uneducated and powerless. Winston sees them as the only hope for change, though they are largely indifferent to politics

There are many Ministries - Like the Ministry of Love, the Ministry of Truth, etc. But don't go with the name, it's totally the opposite. For example, the Ministry of love is responsible for law, order, and punishment, using fear, torture, and brainwashing to crush dissent and enforce loyalty to the Party. You will get the idea of other ministries while reading the story.

A person named Emmanuel Goldstein is shown as an enemy of Big Brother, opposing his ideas on the Totalitarian Society. But things are not so simple. Well, I don't wanna reveal this twist and urge you to read or listen to this book. Goddamm, you will love it.

Must Listen Experience Book. Review: Spoiler Alert

The gripping narration of this classic made it hauntingly real. Andrew Garfield’s narration of 1984 is absolutely mesmerizing. His voice captures every ounce of tension, despair, and urgency in Orwell’s masterpiece, making the story even more haunting and impactful. It’s not an easy listen emotionally, but his performance brings the world of Oceania. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience this classic in a new, chilling way!

The narration and voice acting.
