Publisher's Summary

Sometimes bad things happen to good people, so good people have to do bad things.

Twenty years after a baby is stolen from her push-chair, a woman is murdered in a care home. The two crimes are somehow linked, and a good bad girl may be the key to discovering the truth.

Edith may have been tricked into a nursing home, but at eighty years young, she’s planning her escape. Patience works there, cleaning up mess and bonding with Edith, a kindred spirit. But Patience is lying to Edith about almost everything.

Edith’s own daughter, Clio, won’t speak to her. And someone new is about to knock on Clio’s door...and their intentions aren’t good.

With every reason to distrust each other, the women must solve a mystery with three suspects, two murders, and one victim. If they do, they might just find out what happened to the baby who disappeared, the mother who lost her, and the connections that bind them.

The Queen of Twists, bestselling author of Daisy Darker and Rock Paper Scissors Alice Feeney, returns with another gripping mystery filled with drama and her trademark surprises in Good Bad Girl.

rollercoaster of emotions

One of the best work of Alice Feeney, story is Perfect. Stephanie Racine has done wonderful work in narration.

The writing is exquisite!

Broken Mother-Daughter relationship with a different plot! A lot of emotions involved. You'll probably get tired of annotating.

Flawed characters and an interesting mystery

In the past a baby is stolen from a stroller in a Departmental Store and the scene then shifts to the present. In the present the story is told by four people - Edith, Patience, Clio and Frankie. The aged Edith lives in a care home and she does not like anyone there other than Patience Little, an eighteen year old care home worker. Clio is Edith’s daughter and she is one who put Edith in the care home. Naturally mother and daughter do not care for each other.

Frankie seems unconnected in the whole story because she is a librarian in prison.

Joy is the manager of the care home and she is murdered.

Investigating into the story, the events go and connect the four women as the secrets of the past come out into the present.

The characters were all flawed and enjoyable to read about.

There were far too many POVs in the beginning, but as the story set into a particular rhythm with Detective Chapman asking questions, the story came together well.

Mother’s Day is the theme of the whole story and it is easy to see why. All the characters, their choices and their life were caught up in an impossible way.

Jude Kennedy was a memorable character for the simple reason, he was the only male in the entire story and he was completely remorseless/cruel about what he would do.

I heard the audio story and it was excellently performed.

Overall an interesting array of characters brought together by completely messed up circumstances. Liked it.

An interesting thriller

#bookhoarderreviews
Having delved into numerous works by this author, I must assert that this particular piece falls short of her usual brilliance. Although the plot maintains a firm grip, it lacks the customary 'WOW' moments characteristic of Alice Feeney's thrillers. Two supposedly jaw-dropping moments failed to captivate me, as their predictability surfaced long before the story unfolded.

The intricate plot construction, featuring a myriad of characters and timelines, proved engaging, despite occasional confusion, amplified by my choice of an audiobook format. However, a good thriller demands some mental effort.

I appreciate the author's incorporation of subtle elements, such as the ladybug finger ring, paper cuts, and a character's numerical obsession, which added depth to the overall experience.

As the narrative progressed seamlessly, the abrupt attempt by the author to neatly piece together all elements detracted from the ending's impact. While suitable for newcomers to the genre, seasoned thriller enthusiasts may find it somewhat lacking.
