Publisher's Summary

A hot summer on the Northumberland coast and Julie Armstrong arrives home from a night out to find her son strangled, laid out in a bath of water and covered with wildflowers.

This stylised murder scene has Inspector Vera Stanhope intrigued. But then another body is discovered in a rock pool, the corpse again strewn with flowers. Vera must work quickly to find this killer who is making art out of death.

As local residents are forced to share their deepest, darkest secrets, the killer watches, waits and plans to prepare another beautiful, watery grave....

Keeps you guessing

A bit of a slow story line and did not pick up as normally Ann Cleeves Books do, but did keep you guessing till the end which was the good part of her books.

story draws you in

Brilliant narration. Characters and plot draws you in. Fantastic detailed descriptions. Loses a bit in believability of motives.

Great listen

Nice to be able to picture Brenda Blethyn as Vera Stanhope, easy to picture the action and Vera with her sidekick Joe Ashworth

Unbearable attempt at Regional accents made for an excruciating listen. Sorry not worth the pain!

Characters not well defined. Didn’t really see the point of some of them. Didn’t finish- as per title.

Good Story

but why does the narrator make all the male detectives sound like simpletons, other than that she has a pleasing voice
