Publisher's Summary
Half-Fae, half-human Bryce Quinlan loves her life. Every night is a party and Bryce is going to savour all the pleasures Lunathion - also known as Crescent City - has to offer. But then a brutal murder shakes the very foundations of the city, and brings Bryce's world crashing down.
Two years later, Bryce still haunts the city's most notorious nightclubs - but seeking only oblivion now. Then the murderer attacks again. And when an infamous Fallen angel, Hunt Athalar, is assigned to watch her every footstep, Bryce knows she can't forget any longer.
As Bryce and Hunt fight to unravel the mystery, and their own dark pasts, the threads they tug ripple through the underbelly of the city, across warring continents and down to the deepest levels of Hel, where things that have been sleeping for millennia are beginning to stir....
With unforgettable characters and suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by No.1 New York Times best-selling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom - and the power of love.

Satisfactory
Wanted a change so thought I’d give fantasy a try. Went with the 2020 good reads fiction winner. Got what I expected from this genre. Great world building, good classification of classes/sects and a good story to back it up with. The characters and their arcs were good too. But I couldn’t really connect with the main characters. Some of the decisions and actions around chapter 70 was really stupid and made no sense. But thankfully the author somehow manages to bring it all back and tied it up at the end. It is a great book otherwise and was satisfied overall.

A magical mystery
Loved the narration! It only added to a definitely gripping story of this magical world. The only dull point for me was the constant repetition of near miss sensual encounters between Bryce and Hunt, even though their chemistry was great. The story sucks one deep into it's mystery and magic. It's a must to explore the world created by Sarah J Maas.

Brilliant!
I have read my share of fantasy books. But I must say that no book had such seemless blend of modern day and magical worlds together. The world building and the characters were something of an awe. I was happily lost into the world and lived in the story. My reality seems so uninteresting and bland now. These characters were so strong. From the beautiful gates, to the dingy apartment, the love between Bryce and Danika, the attraction between Connor and Bryce, the undying loyalty. I could see but I felt it all.
This book has it all, loyal beyond death friendships, love of family both blood ties or otherwise, steamy romance, sass and attitude, heart wrenching events where you feel your own heart breaking with the character, humor that made me laugh out loud, (especially Lehabah) and suspense that had audible exhales of relief rushing from me. I literally could not put this book down! It is one of those books when I read the last sentence not only did it leave me wanting the next book immediately, it left me feeling sad, I’m not ready to leave this world, these characters behind. Can’t wait for more!!

Impressed
This is do much better than I thought it would be. It was weord at first, because I'm not used to my fantasy having such a modern twist, especially coming from aCoTaR and ToG. The tone was so different. It took me 5 chapters to get used to it and after that I was hooked. I'm impressed. I've already bought the second audiobook and I intend on buying the physical copies as well. Definitely something I want I want on my shelf.

Amazingly boring, some technical isdued
Elizabeth Evans does a decent read. A few times I had difficulty separating voices. On occasion there seemed to be some muffled narration. Maybe it was technical.
The story is a kind of fantasy chicklit. Girlfriends discussing boyfriends and going clubbing. Sex in the City with werewolf and fairy. This is the start and set up for the book. Unfortunately it went on too long. So that when the supposedly adventurous part starts I didn't care.
The fights and damage scenes are graphic but unengaging. The emotions feel like distanced. The result was a book that's despite great detail and some gory action was boring.

Was reluctant to start this as being such a Maas fan didn’t want to be disappointed..... but soooo glad did as yet again this was a fantastic read/listen. Different to start - like a fairy crime thriller - brilliant story line, characters, build - and left wanting more. Also loved narration - clear and pleasing to listen to Elizabeth captures each character beautifully - brings to life and at perfect pace. Couldn’t imagine listening to anyone else. Now just waiting for next instalment. Please hurry!

Captivating and enjoyable
I think this might be my favourite Sarah J. Maas book so far. Believable and relatable characters, exciting plot with twists and surprises, slow burn romance. I particularly liked the way the character’s struggle with trauma is portrayed, as well as the depth of love in friendship, and the difficulty in navigating sibling/family relationships. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

2/3
2/3 into the book it just got more a more eventful, you literally couldn’t stop reading without being left wondering what was gonna happen next. If your eyes do not water even a little bit then you might be heartless.

Wasted a credit
I usually really enjoy Sarah J. Mass, but this book was so dull, and the narrator was terrible. I couldn’t finish it. Really disappointed and I will always listen to the preview before buying from now on.

Did not disappoint
I wasn’t sure what I expected of this book, and I was slightly concerned as this was my first Sarah j Maas book that I’ve ‘read’ via audiobook. The story itself was really good, the magic fantasy world blended with a modern city setting was crafted expertly and there were more than enough twists and turns to keep me hooked, and I wasn’t able to predict any of the major plot twists. I’m also happy to say that this was one of the best narrations I’ve ever heard, listening to this book was an absolute joy!
Highly recommend!

I battled through
This listen was a battle to finish. The narrator almost did my head in. Every word, every conversation was spoken with so much 'sexiness' it was irritating. The breathy, slow, sexy way every thing was said, was so totally annoying. Why can't the narration be in a normal voice, spoken normally?? The story got better the longer I listened, but because of the narration, I was distracted from the story.

A brilliant new series for Maasians
Absolutely loved it. I loved that it was the same narrator as the Throne of Glass series too. cannot wait for book 2. the mystery had me hooked and the last third of the book had me on the edge of my seat.

No
This book seems like it was set in the US even though it is not. The dialogue is very American, with references to college experiences manicures, purses and sports games. Couldn't get past the first chapter.
It's just not my thing. Others might enjoy it though.

Well Worth The Listening
I was pleasantly surprised that Elizabeth Evans has returned to read this book, brought back some nostalgia of TOG.
That being said, this book is vastly different and to be honest, took a little bit for me to get into as my first urban fantasy. Once I delved into the story, however, I was hooked.
Can’t wait for the next one!

She’s done it again
I was captivated. Sarah J. Maas creates such immersive worlds and fascinating characters, with Bryce being no exception. Can not wait to see where this story goes next!

Crass and irritating. Narrator just as bad
I really wish I hadn't bought this as a 3 books for 2 credits deal because it means that my credit is not refundable. I persevered as long as i could hoping that it'd get better or I'd get used to the crass wording, juvenile behaviour and dialogue from the characters and the uninspired and cliche voices re narrator gace them, but alas it was not to be. Will not be trying any other books from either author or narrator

same performer as ToG
loved the book however would have preferred a different performer/reader as her voice is (in my mind) tied to the throne of glass series by Maas as well. given how different this series was supposed to be seems a lil short sighted to use the same voice.
