What a Writer!
If you haven’t read Wilbur Smith YOU NEED TO! I am so sad because I have now finished all of his series along with all but one of his novels. I’m saving that for an up coming road trip with my husband.
Mr. Smiths writing style is so very extraordinary, vivid, alive, I feel like I am a character in one of his stories his novels are so easy to melt into. I feel as though I can, smell the air, taste the salt of the sea, feel the stinging heat of the desert, touch the minerals and rocks, hike through the jungles, go on Safari, feel the splashing rain, smell the mineral iron smell of blood, ride a horse....I JUST DO NOT KNOW HOW TO EXPRESS HOW FABULOUS THESE NOVELS & SERIES ARE!

Hungry as the sea
The audio is not divided into chapters and comes as one long chapter. why? Very difficult to navigate especially if you lose your place and want to review or listen to something again. Shame on you audible for lazy work. What's the idea? The narrator is good and expressive, spoilt by lazy editing. I couldnt finish eturned it.

Sea disaster
This book was very exciting and it made me think about how much seaman are at the mercy of the sea. Also the care and the attention that needs to go in the construction of ships, Cheep is not the best.

maybe a book of it’s time?
Wilbur seemed to have a bit of a repetitive obsession around breast and nipples and terry being smashed down to the gums, but i did enjoy this marine romp through danger and adventure, i did skip all the sex and erotic scenes of bough, there came over as very naff. the reader wasn’t good at women’s voices either

Great book a right ripping adventure
This book is firmly set in the 1970's and reflects the time and attitudes accurately and succinctly. People who want to fight the environmental battle should listen to these stories, and realise why we still haven't done enough. Other than the enviro message though its a right ripping yarn of the sort that old sailors tell on cold afternoons in front of blazing fires, but don't think they lie, there are still men like Nick Berg out there thank goodness.

Unbelievably outdated and tactless.
What is probably a very good story utterly ruined by the thinly drawn, atrociously written female characters. Found myself literally yelling out loud every time a woman’s breasts were unnecessarily detailed in excessive and impossible ways. Couldn’t finish this book - tried several times and just got frustrated. Wilbur Smith is of his time and it’s really not for me. Don’t touch it if you’re into realistic women who aren’t obsessed with sex and aren’t just foils to our older gruff male protag. Yawn.

truly tedious
It starts relatively well but quickly desends into utter tedium. The character descriptions of the leading lady were extraordinary. i rarely give up on a book but i couldn't continue with this one
