Patricia Highsmith (1921-1995) è stata una delle più apprezzate scrittrici thriller della sua generazione. Nel 1955 dà vita al fortunato personaggio di Tom Ripley, protagonista di innumerevoli romanzi. Fra le sue opere più note, si possono citare anche Vicolo cieco (1954), Acque profonde (1957) e Quella dolce follia (1960).
