Publisher's Summary

She's Pilgrim Hospital's most unusual patient, and on this Saturday night a media circus is gathered to record every minute of her visit to the X-ray department. Crammed into the small CT scan room are reporters, TV cameras, a select group of medical technicians and forensic pathologist Maura Isles. Maura is there because the patient being scanned tonight isn't alive. She's probably been dead for centuries. She is, in fact, a mummy. As the CT scan proceeds, everyone gasps in horror as an image of a bullet is revealed. Maura declares it a possible homicide case and calls in Detective Jane Rizzoli. When the preserved body of a second victim is found it becomes clear that a maniac is at large.

A fantastic thriller.

Another nails to the quick, outstanding thriller. The narration was an outstanding compliment to Ms Gerritsen's writing.

Excellent Thriller , brilliantly narrated.

I love Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli ,Frost and Isles characters. This is a great read but this narrator, Loreli, adds another dimension that brings the story to life. A lovely twisting ,clever, plot that keeps you guessing. A great book.

An excellent story, brilliantly told

I love this book - an excellent instalment in the Rizzoli & Izles series - and have read and listened to it so many times. I won't go into story details (I hate spoilers!) but it is a thrilling read with so many twists, full of interesting historical clues for how the murderer has treated his victims' bodies (which was really interesting, in a kind of grisly way!). An absolutely brilliant read, and I can't wait to read the next!
I highly recommend this book for all R&I fans (who won't really recognise it from the tv show), as well as other thriller, crime and murder-mystery lovers. And if you like this story, you'll like the whole series!

Good listen

Not as engaging as some of the other Tess Gerritsen books. Still great and I'll definitely be looking out for others in the Rizzoli and Isles series

3 stars seems unkind but not worth 4

I found it very slow paced with not enough exciting moments. There were inventive and well written twists but just not enough in between those moments. There were parallels to the last Rizzoli and Isles read but in it's defence this wouldn't have happened if I'd been doing them in order. I love Lorelei Kings voice and how she reads things but I found in this one she struggled to give the characters their own distinctive voices. Despite 3 stars I still enjoyed it and will be exploring the series more.

Thrills, spills & some interesting archeological facts..

Gripping 1st chapter & a story packed with suspense. I got this in a sale & I'm so glad! Proper strong female characters, no lazy writing & Lorelei King's narration never lets you down. I hope the others in this series are this good, I'm off to find out now!

Gripping stuff

This author satisfies my every need in a crime thriller, the writing is spot on with just enough background detail, action, good research, intriguing characters. Kathy Reichs equal (though not in pathology info which I find fascinating).

Not much in it....

It's ok, there's a story and a mystery but it's all very light despite some of the dark subtext this is an inconsequential little book. I must admit to being very disappointed

Mixed emotions on this one.

Can't say I loved it. More a 3 and a half star for me. Listened to the audio twice hoping my opinion would improve. It didn't. Will I listen again in the future? Unsure.

Another great read

Once again I was captivated from page 1 and the narration was easy to listen to as well.
