Publisher's Summary
In the second novel in acclaimed author Sandra Owens's Aces & Eights series, passions - and tempers - flare as one star-crossed couple gets a second chance at love.
Covert FBI agent Court Gentry loves his brothers, his job, and his Harley-Davidson. Once he loved a girl, too, but when she broke his heart, he put his emotions on lockdown...until she crosses his path again.
On vacation six years ago, free-spirited Lauren Montgomery fell hard for Court Gentry. She returned home happier than ever, only to descend into a spiral of abuse by her ex-husband, Stephan. When Stephan threatened to kill any man who touched her, Lauren cut Court from her life - but not from her heart.
When Lauren and Court reunite after her friend marries his brother, Court guards himself against the person who made him feel such intense passion and pain. Except the undeniable spark between them is impossible to contain and heating up fast. Six years ago, it was love. Now, it's just lust. Keeping it merely physical is a foolproof plan...right?
When Stephan is released from prison, Lauren can't outrun her past anymore, and Court vows to protect her. But with Lauren in imminent danger, Court must question his heart and risk his life to save the woman he never stopped loving.

Disappointing...
Would you try another book from Sandra Owens and/or Sebastian York and Amy McFadden ?
The character personalities were immature, they came off as hormonal teenagers playing at being adults. The storyline felt forced with unrealistic emotions. Poorly written, with even worse female narration. I will avoid all books narrated by the female narrator.

Wish they would've chosen a different female Narra
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The female narrator's voice was a little obnoxious and hard to listen to. Sebastian York was great as always, I couldn't give a 5 star for performance since hers wasn't good. It was a shame this was written in third person, it's always a poor choice in my opinion.
Which character – as performed by Sebastian York and Amy McFadden – was your favorite?
Court by far. Lauren seemed very naive, narration sucked, and overall sense of wanting to protect Court by breaking things off with him only made her character weaker.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
They fall in love after 6 days? After she was divorced? It's a little hard to follow.

Second chance romance
While each book has its own story arc - there are also storylines that run through the series, so it’s best to read/listen to them all and in order.
We met Court & Lauren in the last book and it was apparent they had a history. This is a solid second chance romance mixed with action - heavier on the romance/relationship aspect but still enough FBI investigation & stalker-suspense to keep things moving. Regular updates with Alex & Mad as well as hints to make me interested in Nate & Taylor’s book, Ace of Spades.
Dual narration. I'm a fan of both Amy McFadden & Sebastian York. They both did a good job with all the various voices, perspectives, and emotions.

starts out with way too much verbal porn
so. I hated the first chapters because it was all basically verbal porn. I don't read for that, so if you do, this book may be ok.
what I will say is that 1/2 to 3/4 ( I FF'ed a LOT) of the book, it actually gets GOOD...action, adventure, a little of the "can I live with him or without them" and a great ending. strategic, suspenseful, and a good ending. I just hated that they spent so much time up front of the book with useless sex and didn't really get to something tangible. The cover implies its gritty and action packed with a hint of romance. it's really a harlequin with a little action thrown in. not a bad book, just not what I expected from the summary and title.

meh...
I downloaded these books a while back read one and abandoned them then when I read the second one I remembered why I had abandoned them. the storyline is not bad. the setting of it is where the problem lies. The female character I found irritating her backwards and forwards just did my head in. the male character well I couldn't make up my mind about him - sometimes he was alright other times I just didn't quite get what I needed from him. the whole ending to the saga was anti-climatic and again left me feeling is that It? the character that read him was flat with no change in intonation for different characters, the female narrater would have been better to read the whole book. Overall I felt dissatisfied by the whole thing.
